We're painters and I painted my mom and dads ceiling qnd living room. The next day my dad called me to help my mom pick out the best tv. On the way home they gave it to me. I was completely surprised. I just am glad i have these memories.

@RustyShackleford-be2hn exactly not the only diffence between good paint and crap paint is. Good paint has alot of resin and alot of pigment. Adding water only creates less coverage and less resins and loses the color.

Don't ever water down yr paint, your taking away the paints natural properties that maintain the paints durability, also makes for more splatter. You always should cut in with a mini roller unless you're not painting the walls, use a brush amd mini roller. Never cut in with the big roller. Also start from a window or light source so you can see the wet line. I've been a painting professional for 25 years.

@@e33d90 The guy who posted makes some very good points, the reason I know this is because I too used to be a professional decorator! You piss the paint out with water only to paint new plaster walls as a 'miss-coat', at a 50/50 water to paint ratio. Otherwise why thin out your paint? You want solid coverage with the best possible opacity
@e33d90

@TheHungryTrollRawr
@TheHungryTrollRawr Ай бұрын
@@e33d90 mate, he explains the problem in his comment! If you thin paint out, it effects and weakens the durability of the coat. Remember thinning paint out loses the coverage too, sometimes you may have to add an extra coat just because you thinned the previous coat out - I mean that's counter productive, especially when you're trying to earn money! The body of the paint is made so unthinned provides the absolute best coverage possible - aka it looks better. You get two types of decorator remember, theres the ones with really good names and then theres the cowboys! Another tip, I used to work with a lad in the old firm I worked for, who always thinned out the gloss paint, you seriously see the dfference when it's dry compared to another decorator. His finish lost LOADS of the finished shine, as well as his paint looked more see though! I swear to God we worked on expensive new build houses, they sold around £250,000 each and I was 17-18 at the time, I'm 47 now, to give you an idea. The woodwork looked stunning when prepped and painted properly, you would see the thinned out gloss in the ones my mate painted and it really looked weak. Shocking tbh

No....imo I don't water down any paint. The diffrence between quality paint and cheap paint is just that quality paint has resin and pigment in it and cheap paint is just watered down paint. The reason cheap paint does not have great coverage is cause it has to much water in it. If you want watered down paint just buy the cheap paint.

Sounds like a great plan, if you can handle trigonometry, and all those other cipherin' skills. For a dunderhead like me, you gotta dumb it down a bit. Or a lot! Always amazes me how much and how often those skills come into play in just about *any* trade. So that's why, kids, knuckle down and pay attention in school during algebra, calculus, and your trig classes. Much more to the trades than manning a jackhammer or doing demo work. There is literally no trade or field where you won't use some aspect of those "impractical" (when you're 15, 16, or 17) math skills. Case in point; the simple planning out of painting a ceiling.

You can improve consistency of coverage, and reduce effort required, and improve productivity, by using a longer extension handle (more leverage) and using your wrists more. The longer handle means less vertical angle of attack, so easier on the eyes and neck (but another good trick is to roll up a towel and place on backpack to support neck during painting).

Yes and no, depends on type of sleeve , type of paint (brand and finish) and how it's applied. That's a great sleeve. Another is "Superdoz". Both are tight weaved not long hairy type. Assume he rolling it out pretty good and working it in. But I've seen so called pro butchers just slop it on more or less for speed and think they're great painters because of their speed. All his tips are good. Thinning the paint depends on paint you're using and application. Some comments here are complaining to never thin paint. Hot hot it is, type of surface you're working on, even humidity effect how a paint lays. Sure you know. For anyone who reads this and don't.

Pro tip. Even with matt paint you can see the overlaps when entering the room in that case. So the back and forth i would always recommend to do parellel to the ray of lights coming in not perpendicular

@@JamieP-fi5xi This is so backwards in my experience lol. Dulux is one of the easiest paints to work with. Benjamin Moore is easily the thickest.

Should specify when you are watering down your material, that it’s latex and not oil based or someone is going to absolutely destroy a good can of paint

The direction on the can/bucket say "two full coats" meaning the only thinning that should be done when used as a primer but most painters here in the states use a separate primer. I really don't know the reasoning for the thinning but he has his reasons.

He thins the paint so it's easier to work with and oil paint can be used on ceilings/walls if you are trying to seal a surface from a stain or nicotine.

If you don't know what oil based is as opposed to water based they shouldn't touch a thing

Mate, what's the gadget for cleaning the roller? I'm just about to start painting my flat. Also, can you use emulsion as an undercoat? I was just going to completely cover my whole bedroom with emulsion, including all the woodwork and then go back over the woodwork with gloss. Is this OK?
