Ime in the trade in England. I always roll the walls first before cutting in, then that gives the walls time to dry whilst cutting in. I find that way much quicker , I also use a scuttle bucket for my paint instead of a tray.

I've worked as a painter in the past, and have to say so far your tutorial is the best I have seen on KZbin. Having worked with top notch painters, I am pleasantly surprised to learn some nuances that were amiss from my experience. You got a like and a new subscriber! I would like to share a tip with all of you: having worked with many decorators in the past, I learned to always remove all the wall plates and mask the electrical components. Meanwhile, clean the wall plates from any dirt, sand, prime and paint them with the same color of the wall - or cover them with the wallpaper being used, if that's the case - once the paint is dry apply 2 coats of non-yellowing sealant, scrape with a blade any excesses of paint and wait as long as possible to put them all back, that is to give the chance for the paint to cure properly. Aesthetically the finish result is incomparable, no matter how humble a room may be. As they say, the devil lies in the details!
@howtopaintinfo5 жыл бұрын
I have noticed Aussie switches and power points are different to American ones. The new style here have a cover plate that you remove when painting and replace when finished, the switch still looks like the one in this video except it has a removable cover. So I just completed painting a mudroom using a technique like this, using an off-white with pearl sheen. When the paint dried, I had lap lines (sheen differences) galore in certain light, looking down the wall. Yikes. I think I my roller may have been too dry when laying off, or perhaps I didn't overlap my up and down strokes quite enough. This gentleman makes it look so easy! I'm back to Square One, starting over. I'm going to try an eggshell sheen this time, to reduce the light reflecting on an imperfect technique, hopefully.

It’s best practice to take off the fittings e.g. power point faceplate as you’ll always hit the us edge (no matter how ‘pro’ you are, don’t sidestep this!) and you’ll notice in this video the different texture between the rest of the wall and close to the edge of the fitting. If you don’t care for the quality because it’s a rental, then that’s a different story. :)
@howtopaintinfo5 жыл бұрын
Here in Australia the old power points like in this video if removed will be hanging by wires so you would still need to cut around but it could look a little neater or just be annoying because power point is now hanging down the wall. Generally power points shouldn't be touch by any one except an electrician, if something was to go wrong and a painter had removed power point then they would be liable for any damages. Modern day electrical sockets have a removable cover but you still need to cut around them like I have in this video. The good part is you don't need to worry about cutting in perfectly as the cover hides all the edges.. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
@larrybud Жыл бұрын
Not only that, if you ever replace the faceplates with a different (small) size, you'll have painted all the way up to the electrical box instead of up to the faceplate itself.

Good video but you should remove the power outlet covers before painting. It’s a lot easier, you can paint right up to the metal, and in the future when the outlets are replaced the standard for the cover size may be smaller, meaning you’ll have to repaint the wall if you didn’t remove them
@howtopaintinfo Жыл бұрын
Outlets here in Australia are different to other countries, we do have a cover plate on the new style of outlets but the outlet is still screwed firm to the wall. We could remove it but the wires are connected to it and it would only hang down the wall. Generally for insurance purposes we do not play with them. The one in this video is and older style with no cover plate. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

Great video. I'm going to be painting my kitchen soon. It has a very high ceiling. I'd need to be on a ladder to reach the top but obviously can't be on a ladder to do the bottom. How would I get it to look smooth when having to do the height in two goes. Off to watch your other videos now.

You can buy broom stick handles that have a screw thread on them which should attach to the roller handle. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

Hi, What should be the ideal roll width to obtain smooth surface? i couldnt understand from video. ? thanks
@howtopaintinfo3 жыл бұрын
When rolling you need to overlap the previous rolling and generally it would be half or quarter of the roller width overlap, as long as you over lap it will be fine. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

Good method, can you tell me if it’s ok to dip in go directly when you just ended rolling I was thought to go 50 \50 all the time maybe that 50 \ 50 does not include when you freshly dip and I also do it with 18 inch 3/8 and it looked ok when I started directly on where I just rolled two lines I start 3rd with full dip and work forward then go back and make sure it’s not heavy there is this ok or big Jo Jo

Great video with handy tips. What roller coat have you used? I’ve painted my walls following a very similar technique but I end up with grooves / stiples

The roller nap is between 15 and 18mm, don't go shorter than 15mm unless you are applying a semi gloss acrylic then you could go as low as 12mm. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
