Great video. Been using oil based gloss for years but yellowing has made me turn to water based gloss. Different technique needed still learning and I go back to the 60s

You said check for runs after 10 minutes but, what do you if you find them? Whenever I've tried to correct water based runs, they just drag and create more of a mess.

Useong Johnson’s water gloss. Used to oil gloss and can get a good finish I’ve tried all diff techniques, and everything in water based had lines or roll crinkles!

My experience u have to be really fast to lay off or it goes like orange peel, but I agree with you it's difficult to get a nice finish

As the man says, put plenty on. Oil based gloss will do 3 times as many door sides. Yet the water based crap costs the same!

Water based has improved a lot but you still don't get as good as finish as oil based paints ....

Although I’m not a painter by trade, all i will say is you have to work quite quick with water based gloss, and as we all know it will be the norm soon.

Currently painting a kitchen door with deluxe trade diamond eggshell, white. Small short hair roller as man in shop advised. I was a bit surprised at the roller finish and see where the eggshell name comes in, but should I layoff with brush or not

Hi. Do you paint both sides and both edges all at once, or do them separately and wait to a side to dry? is that standard acrylic based gloss or fast drying? do you do all new doors in just two coats by doing the first with acrylic primer undercoat and then the second with oil/water gloss? Thanks for your time, keep up the good work.

My advise don’t use this paint ,it’s fing useless , frustration of not getting a good finish ,is endless ,you just end up with lines drys in minutes you can not go over again check for runs after 10 or 15 seconds you mean .remember do not use this for doors ,be warned.
@tonyp96015 жыл бұрын
Your right... It is about the most ridiculous invention of paint ever. I used some to roll a door in black and I had about 2 mins to lay off max before it was already tacky pulling up form the surface so that's actually good advice on using a 9 inch roller but probably better to roll the whole door and lay off in one go within two mins with a 9 inch brush too.
@davidcoleman7573 жыл бұрын
@@tonyp9601 Dark w/b colours are really bad for showing marks. Damned stuff dries too fast, especially in summer. It might be better for the environment but it's a pain to work with.
@tonyp96013 жыл бұрын
@@davidcoleman757 So true. and if there is a draft you're really in the sh...t. It's gotta go on and be laid off in one go and there is no going back over it But that's the trick, full size roller and a large brush to lay off if one has to use it. I heard if you just roll in one direction only when laying off with a roller it works better with the dark base. one way only as if you go back up it tears it all up and makes a mess. pretty hard to do. Plenty on and lay off is correct. Panels: inserts first then wipe the overlap on the flats off with a damp cloth then hit the flats centres, top, middle, bottom with a roller and lay em off with a brush each one straight up as one goes then sides last the same. comes up perfect. edges seperate before or after and wipe the fat edge off with a damp cloth and finger.
@tonyp96013 жыл бұрын
@@davidcoleman757 Totally... Go oil for dark. I used a product to do an exterior window frame area. Just a beading basically and all you could do is put it on, lay of once and keep moving forward. No going back on it option. And that was in a light color. no room for finesse, just get it on and leave as is.

I hate the dam W.B. paint you get now. The last time I painted I used Dulux Trade white gloss oil based and it gave a fantastic gloss finish, because I could take my time and do it properly. Heavens knows how I am going to paint anything any more. With this junk, why has the world gone this way. No doubt some tree hugger or a nut case, sorry they are both the same thing.

Roll and lay off is a lot quicker that's why. A roller put's it on much more evenly . Just lightly tip off for a better finish.
