Omg I just started gouache!! This is great because I got gouaches just to be able to play with them and watercolors. I hope you make more videos with gouaches. Have a great day and thank you for your beautiful videos!

Hey.. I started with watercolours very recently - mostly to deal with work stress. Watching your videos is super helpful. I always get to learn so much. Thank you so much! Stay blessed.

I love it, it turned out great! I can't believe that's your first time trying to paint that! I think I will try and do this, although without gouache. Hopefully using darker/thicker watercolor will also work. I hope your little one is feeling better and that you and Matt are getting some rest!

Like other people here I have been thinking about using gouache with watercolours too. It was interesting to see you use the jelly gouache. I have seen it once before and it looks a nice consistency. Really lovely painting. Thank you.

Love the painting, I have never tried gouache, I had no idea what it was even. The texture of it reminds me of a soft bodied acrylic paint like FolkArt. Maybe I could try using that with the watercolor and see how it goes. Thank you for the video.

Could I add a little white to a watercolour colour to create an opaqueness do you think?? I’m on a budget, there’s a white in my set of tube watercolours which I think would work and I’m not keen on buying more media.
@deborahrodney65622 жыл бұрын
Yes you can do that. White gouache added to watercolor makes them more opaque and lighter. It’s a great technique. I love to combine watercolor and gouache in a painting. First layers; watercolor. Top layers or accents; gouache. Gouache is wonderful when you get the hang of it. It allows you to cover up mistakes and I find it so much easier than watercolor.

I just happened to have bought some gouache recently. But I haven’t used it yet because I don’t know what brushes to use. You said that you didn’t want to use your good watercolor brushes. Will the gouache damage the watercolor brushes? Thanks 🙏
@janc7342 жыл бұрын
Gouache is heavier than watercolor so you need a stiffer brush. My watercolor brushes are too soft for my gouache plus they weren't cheap so reserve them for just watercolor. I bought some Princeton Snap brushes for my gouache which are inexpensive and work well with gouache and can be used for watercolor as well when you want a snappier brush.

Ditch the himi gouache and stay with w&n or better yet if u can get some holbein it's heavenly. It goes on so smoth and vibrant with very little pigment needed. Himi is a job to use and every color needs white to stay Opaque and then u need water and it's just a balancing act that can't be done as a beginner. Slow down on your layer thickness. Also with himi the underlayers lreactivate and mix the second u add the next layer. You gotta not fiddle with the upper layers, dry underneath on not. The pro brands stay intact way better.

The lack of confidence makes perfect sense to me. I’ve tried gouache a few times. All of which have been disastrous. My problem may be too much water. I hadn’t thought of that. I know that my acrylic brushes that I’ve abused😳, seem to work better.
