This is the most interesting approach ( I'm kind a newby). I've only done the birch trees with masking tape over them for a wash for the background (poured out). Along with Karen Rice, you are now my 2nd WC tutor on YT. I'll have to look in to your website for online classes. I fear YT is getting a little too political and they may lose their license to stay up and going.(just what I've heard). I use it mainly for art tutorials. Oh yes.... just remembered. The Mind of Watercolor on YT is also a cool one. Very interesting approaches. 👌

Hi Paul, this looks really magical, can't wait to try it myself! I was recently buying some new art supplies after watching your videos, like a white pencil and more 100% cotton paper for those beautiful wet in wet techniques. I also bought some Alizarin-Crimson from Schmicke (what a great color!) but I got a bit concerned about its lightfastness. Do you still recommend to use it or are there some alternatives that you could suggest? Thanks again for your all the tutorials and greetings from Germany!

Beautiful painting and excellent instruction; nevertheless, I am very disappointed. Usually, you have all this wonderful thematic introductory commentary and visuals to sort of put us "into the picture" so to speak, whether it's a walkabout in a foreign country or something closer to home. So when I read the title "Watercolour Using the Pour Technique," I fully expected you to begin the video standing out in the rain or trudging through a stormy countryside without an umbrella, water dripping down your face. You missed the opportunity! 😉

Hello Paul Clark! :) I tried this but got stuck right off. How do you mix 1/2 and 1/2 water with the watercolor? I have tubes and tried that but couldn't get the ratio right. I also have watercolor in pans. Neither worked out well for me. Is there a technique that you use to get the 50-50% ratio right? or any tips you can provide would be appreciated. Apologies if this is an ignorant question but need some guidance with how it's done. Would like to try this. Does it require a lot of paint to do this? Thank you.

When this started, the idea of 'pouring' watercolor, I was ready to say I dislike this one. However, I love the result. I can never see me (as realistic and detailed as I am) pouring paint, I love the pipettes!! and have just ordered some. I can't wait to play with this. Love the painting and what this method does to the paper. Thanks for the direction to something new! Barbara

Wow! I’ve only heard of acrylic pouring and it never interested me. This looks challenging but fun. Gonna have to try this. Thanks for the ideas, Paul. Love the results!

Paul, what is the brand of pastel pencils you use? About pouring...do you squirt a dollop of colour out of a tube then add water and mix until a milky consistency? (I have tried acrylic pouring but never watercolour.) You always make your paintings look so easy and effortless but the magic you make w your paintings is harder than it looks but I have to give this a go!

Hiya - I use the Faber-Castell Pit pastel pencils but the white one is usually a Stabilo CarbOthello.... and yes, a squeeze of tube paint into the jar them add water with the pipette.

Paul- I need help with the ink. I have purchased what you’ve suggested but do not get the same reaction. My ink “spiders” out beautifully at first, but that dissipates to a blob once dried. Do I need a less water? Should I wait for the paper dampness of when we add salt to our painting? I appreciate suggestions

Hi Amy - it could be a case of less water - just practice on an old sheet of watercolour paper, simply blobbing the ink on - waiting for the water to dry at different stages - good luck!

What a great way to "redeem" oneself after many "poor" paintings that ended up in the "circular file"! Fun, Paul! Thanks! Enjoyed watching and will definitely try.

Another brilliant tutorial! This technique has my mind on fire with all the possibilities. I'm traveling across the southwest right now and seeing magnificent sunsets and rock formations. I think this pouring technique you demonstrated just might work well with this landscape. Thank you for inspiration! 👍🏻
