Great video! Earlier even I used to think using only the primary colours & mixing them would be enough but then found that the mixed ones turn out duller than the ready colours available in the art stores. The ready pigments appear so much brighter & fresher. So they won ultimately... at least some of them... the ready ones... :-D

Yes. Sometimes having a reduced number of colours can make for a fresher look.

Hi Tim! Question for you: at 10:30 you put the cinereous blue wash down... at 11:30 you paint-in on top of the blue sky for the middle tower for the soft edge - how come the top wash doesn't bleed into the blue while it's wet? I've been using Winsor Newton Cold Pressed 300gsm and can't seem to replicate this technique - apart from my lack of skill & expereince... :o) .... would you say that the quality of the Saunders Waterford paper makes a differnce that helps acheive this, or is it more down to timing, or possibly not wetting the paper too much before the blue wash? (apologies it's turned into several questions!) Kind regards, Steve
@TimWilmot6 жыл бұрын
I would say the quality of the Saunders Waterford paper has got something to do with it and timing - maybe 50/50 if you see what I mean. Thanks Steve

@TimWilmot7 жыл бұрын

@donnagoode69233 жыл бұрын
Long time since this post, not sure if you will get this reply. Anyway, what I do is just pause the program, assuming it's on a pausable platform, and work directly from the screen rather than trying to get a photo. If you're viewing on a tv connected to a computer, another option is a screenshot. I have health issues that keep me from travelling, so tv and youtube are my only source for inspiration from distant places.

What happens about copyright in a situation like this, does it apply?
@e.m42747 жыл бұрын
Painting your own picture is under fair use. It isn't exactly the same as the original photo, + you *make* it. Even if you took a picture of the exact same thing as a nother person, that woul be considered fair use, because you took it, you "created" it. It wouldn't be under the copyright law if he for example took someone else's picture and photoshopped it and then sold it or something. :)) (also lol, copied this comment from what i said earlier to another person)
@w0mblemania7 жыл бұрын
This is not true. It does not fall under fair use if you reproduce the work on KZbin. See other comments.

Hi there, I love your tutorial but what about the copywrights? As far as I know, one is not allowed to use someone elses picture - or motion picture. Do you have the legal right to use this picture? I do not want you to get in trouble... Sincerely, Chatrine

Emiliannmar I am pretty sure that is not true. The copyright laws are very strict and you might end up in a lot of trouble if you do not honour it.
@TerryKrysak7 жыл бұрын
I am not a lawyer, so am not giving legal advice. What you are saying is not true!! Fair use strictly applies only to USA law and only applies if you are "reporting" something (if you are a news reporter), or for educational purposes. From my searches this afternoon on the issue, there is general agreement on what I have found that a screen shot from a TV show is still copyright. One would be advised to contact the owner of the copyright, and obtain permission first to use the image(s) to create a derivative work.
@w0mblemania7 жыл бұрын
Emiliannmar: your views on copyright are not correct. Copyright still applies to the original image (the TV show). Technically (and thus legally), Tim does not have the right to reproduce the show on KZbin (or t-shirts or posters or prints) unless he has approval from the copyright holder. He does not automagically gain a right to copy simply because he is painting an image. So it's really an issue of enforcement, and caring. Because Tim has copied one image from a sequence, and is using it to instruct, it's very unlikely the copyright holder would bother to take action. But, they could. Remember that this copyright also protects YOUR artistic works.
@PoeticLite7 жыл бұрын
Chatrine Jansson - For those interested in copyright law in UK and USA see: www.gov.uk/copyright/overview and painting.about.com/cs/artistscopyright/f/copyrightfaq5.htm . Im a big fan of your work Tim. Thanks for the instruction and art you share :)
