I have never seen a tutorial with the video edited this way. I really love the editing, the way that the camera switches to the palette every time you go to get more color. It makes the feeling of immersion so much better and we are made to focus on what you are doing more clearly. Another great youtube artist(Liron Yankovsky) said in one of his videos, to people trying to advance, to watch closely to what the teacher/artist is doing with their palette. That was great advice. The only problem is that most youtube instructors tend to have either a part of their palette in the shot or none at all and the most important part(imo) is neglected and thats no good. So thank you again for taking the time to edit the way you have done. That is so helpful! I imagine it takes time to edit the video to switch shots every time you reach for your palette but those little(big) details like that are much appreciated 👍

Thank you very much indeed for taking the time and trouble to write so generously. My wife does some of the filming. And our son is the brains behind the editing. He is not a professional film maker but very quickly realised that the best thing to do would be to ‘’follow the brush’’, as he puts it. I can’t understand why so many other instructional videos haven’t come up with the same simple idea. Just in case you haven’t seen them, there are several other videos which you can view by going to my website www.andrewpitt.co.uk We have just made a fresh video which will be available shortly. Thanks again for getting in touch.

I, too, love the palette work inclusion, as you paint, as well as the commentary about why you do little things along the way. I learn so much more watching you paint, re-watch it as I paint along, and watch a third time to see what I missed. Thank you for doing these!

Most definitely enjoyed the demonstration painting.Your teaching approach is excellent. It is a pleasure to watch you create your art. Additionally you and whomever is assisting you to produce the superb multi camera presentations are to be complemented. They are by far some of the best video work used for this purpose and seems to get even better with each new demonstration. No off camera mysteries, makes the learning process significantly more valuable. Watching an artist's hands and brush work is so important for students and then to see it from several angles and the palette mixing and water control activities as they happen is a real treat. Thanks for presenting these so thoughtfully.

Andrew, thank you for a Master Class in putting in a loose, cloudy sky. I have been struggling for weeks to grasp this technique, and have got nowhere close to anything other than multiple messy disasters; to a point where I was almost ready to give up in frustration. Thanks to your clear and calm demonstration I feel more confident trying again. Keep up the good work, it is very much appreciated.

Absolutely brilliant. I have seen many of your watercolours on display in Norfolk and Suffolk and their retained freshness in colour depicting the subtleties of the scene are by no means easy to achieve and always a delight to view. As an amateur artist, I have used the techniques involved for many years and yes a limited palette is so necessary. Thank you for sharing the demo and I remain yearning after lockdown to get up again to the north Norfolk Coast.

I am in the process of taking a watercolor class and we have done one landscape ,but in snow, therefore it was so good to hear and see your use of colors and blending to creating the sky, background and then middle after focus on the tree, then the foreground in washes of colors, that mix different greens from blues, raw umber, burnt sienna, and a small degree of the veridian. Just beautifully executed with wonderful sharing of all the colors you used as you painted your landscape. Thank you sir. N.R.

Thankyou for this. I will bookmark this instruction and come back to it once monthly. I need constant reminders to 'keep it fresh' - as you say. Lately, I've started to set a painting aside before I think it's done, then come back to it in a few days with a fresh perspective. I might then add a few strokes, or leave it alone and call it finished. It is a constant struggle for me to avoid overworking the paint, so I appreciate your instruction very much.

Dear Mr. Pitt. Thank you for your demonstration. You are very natural in your presentation and clear with your instruction. I like that you teach why you would do something not just do it without rhyme or reason. I believe you have covered everything in this video - if I had questions along the way, they were answered by the end. May I also commend your camera person and the editor! Excellent work, especially for such a demonstration. I can see a lady's feet and must assume your wife or daughter, maybe? Well done, anyway. Thank you again - I am only sorry there are only a few videos to watch.

A delight to the eye. You make it look so easy. The mat you secure the paper with? Plastic? A device you made? Have never see anything like it.

Thank you for your presentation... I really like to know do you then just leave your paints on your palette to keep these palettes for more summer paintings? Such a beautiful demonstration... Such clarity.. Truly. A landscape which really hilights water control. Imagining your idea before you paint after lightly sketching resonated with me as this is where I feel it helps to know when near to completion. Thank you.

Yes, I use roughly the same range of colours all year round and leave them on my palette. They stay reasonably moist if not left too long.

Thanks for your kind comment. Learning to paint takes a lifetime, and then some. Remember, the reason painting is so fascinating is that you are not painting what you know, but what you have just found out. Good luck.

That was awfully helpful indeed, thank you. I wonder how you approach throwing cloud shadows across the land, as would probably ocurre, I surmise, on a day with clouds such as you’ve painted.

Thanks for getting in contact. I would, and have done in the past, paint a cloud shadow in the same way as I paint all forms. There are no special techniques for particular things - concentrate on tone, colour and edges. www.andrewpitt.co.uk
