I absolutely love watching your videos. It's so peaceful yet so informative. I wish I could see in your head to figure out why you keep adding on. Every time you pause and I love it, you put in more. But the final result is SO great. That bit of yellow ochre on the horizon actually looks like it's glowing.
@PeterSheelerart8 жыл бұрын
Even I don't understand what's going on in my head ;) The Yellow Ochre pops because of the dark water.

What impresses me is that you work on hot-pressed paper without the usual backruns and "blooms" that can occur. Your brushwork is fantastic; not a wasted stroke. Wonderful.

you are my favorite sky and cloud watercolorist! I love all the dynamics and dimensions in your painting. And your brush strokes, so amazing, so lively, it's like the brushing was painting itself. By the way you made Sepia my favorite brown.

Hi Peter, I just have to tell how much I appreciate your turtorials. I've been watching tutorials for years looking for the right method that works for my learning style. I had some collage classes 20 years ago and did well. Then I wasn't happy with anything I painted until recently Ive seen an improvement again. Why? Your examples. You don't get chatty so there's much better ability for the mind to absorb the information. In addition, the information is given in short doses. I love the limited palette, as a third reason! Yay!!! Thanks. You are the master👏🏻👍🏻🎨

Lovely, dramatic sky! Will look forward to trying it soon. Also I love the simplicity of your palette set up. Are your dried paint segments perched upon something, possibly to keep them a little above the mixed colors? Just curious as I have an unused small palette that I could set up similar and would be fun to try out.

Thank you. My paints are simply applied to strips of paper. Peter
@dominiquelepoutre10908 жыл бұрын
Peter Sheeler Hi Peter, love your work! Could you explain your comment "applied to pieces of paper" . I imagine maybe you apply a bead of paint to paper, let it dry completely, cut it out and then what? Do you glue the paint on paper strip to palette? How do you keep it from moving? Also, do you always paint small. Thanks so much sharing your techniques in these short videos I've found then very helpful! Dominique

I love your work Peter,thank you. I am following you as I am a beginner and like learning line and watercolour. Question When do you dry off a painting like this so the colours don't go muddy? After every colour? Though the it wouldn't be wet. I struggle with this.
@PeterSheelerart8 жыл бұрын
Hi Jennifer. I kept it wet right up to the point in the video that say I let it dry. Learning how much wet is "just right" takes a great deal of practice.
@maggieb5238 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed this lesson very much. I still have trouble with skies - I think I fuss too much with it. Did your paper stay wet clear up to the point the words on the screen said you let it completely dry? Thanks, Peter.
@PeterSheelerart8 жыл бұрын
Hi Maggie. Yes, the paper stayed wet. Remember, when painting a sky, don't try to copy an image. Just use it as reference and allow the clouds develop as you go.
@maggieb5238 жыл бұрын
I will remember your advice. I think part of my problem is I live in the Phoenix, AZ desert and the paper dries faster than I am able to work. I'm having better luck working on small patches of paper. Thank you again!

I love your work and have done a few of your tutorial videos but my heart sinks when there is so much wet on wet... I can’t get the paper or paint the right wetness and if I do then it’s all too brief as it dries before I’ve finished!!!
@PeterSheelerart4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much Alexandra. Getting the correct wetness.is the biggest challenge of watercolor. I suggest wetting a piece of paper from top to bottom at different levels of dampness as practice. I still get it wrong sometimes.

I love your art, I've been trying to recreate them. Can't seem to get the edges of my clouds as soft as yours. Do I need to really soak the paper and just paint quicker, so the paper doesn't dry?
@PeterSheelerart7 жыл бұрын
Knowing how wet to keep your brush or paper can't be taught on a video. Every paper absorbs differently and every brush holds water at different levels. Even the humidity in your home will have an effect. It's something learned through practice and experience. It is likely that your paper to absorb more water and allow it to really absorb in.
@dallassharp28397 жыл бұрын
Peter Sheeler thanks for the reply, really have enjoyed the paintings having a lot of fun trying to recreate them.

Thanks. Tape: is just regular painters tape. The easily removable type available in any hardware store. Used to create a clean border
