I am now ready to try my hand at painting a portrait of a little girl on the beach so I tried to refer back to that old video but by a stroke of luck I came across your attempt in watercolour! Un grand merci pour vos vidéos. Vous parlez avec un merveilleux anglais que je comprends! quel bonheur! Tous les lundi, je vais dans un atelier, avec un modèle vivant. Evidemment, il y a les bons jours et les mauvais ^^. Une fois rentrée à la maison, je laisse mes dessins ( crayon, pastels ou charcoal) bien en évidence et je les regardes régulièrement pour essayer de comprendre mes erreurs. Puis je reprends mes dessins et je les corriges. Je n'ai encore jamais fait de portrait à l'aquarelle, vous m'avez donné envie d'essayer. Cette technique est pour moi très difficile car j'ai encore tellement a apprendre.

The drawing is so important, as you say. Really like the focus on large areas of color, and avoiding detail. Bouncing around, letting the paint dry, carefulness. I am about to begin some portrait work again, using the comparator mirror tool. Thank you for your gentle speaking as you direct yourself and your brush traffic. Lovely child.

Uncle ben, I have to ask you questions, should I first sketch with burnt umber and then wait for the canvas to dry and paint? Also, Why don't I need pthalo blue and prussian blue to start my palette? Also, how did baroque and renaissance painters match colors?

You talk about oil paint I guess. If you make a detailed sketch in Burnt Umber it is a good idea to let it dry. Pthalo Blue is fine but very strong. Prussian blue as well. Ultramarine Blue is more transparent. And Cerulean Blue is weak and doest not show up in mixtures so much. But it is a personal thing. How the baroque painters did I don't know. They had to prepare their colors themselves mostly.

Could be. It depends on the subject and the type of paper. Some paper does not allow you to come back layer over layer.
