You are 100% correct. I have addressed this problem on the finished tank. in the other parts in the series I show how I resolve this problem :)

The tank is just stunning and your progression as a painter is scary. This tutorial is your best vid to date. Gonna help me out a lot ;)

You can indeed mate. I myself used to paint tanks with a standard brush. I would not now however, because it is much more quick,easy, and the end result is smoother with an airbrush :)
@OrcPainterNerd

It depends on your airbrush my friend. If you have one with a .large needle nozzle set up like a 4.0 it is fine to spray out neat. If not you can dilute it with a little water. the most important thing is make sure you clean your airbrush out asap after varnishing as it will gum up your airbrush like nothing else :)

To be honest mate I need to see how the techniques scale on a 28mm mini.. As soon as i get chance I will experiment and upload a video of my results and how I did it. Cheers for the comment

Thank you for this amazing tutorial ! I wanted to know what kind of airbrush. Do you use ? I want to start myself using one but I don't know where to start , if you could give me an advice on starting brands would be very grateful .

It really works on very greasy resin models it helps to seal in those areas that good clean up will not remove :)

It is very easy with a pipette you will see me use them in a future video. It is much more easy to show people thinning paint in a pallet versus trying to film the process in a airbrush cup.

Great vid I can see how easy you made it look here is my question what you did with an airbrush could that be done with a regular brush? Also I like the heavy paint chipping really give the model a good damage look

Great vid. Are you going to chip the decal to look more the part of the tank. In my opinion, if the tank or vehicle is to be chipped and weathered, shouldn't any decal also be the same?

Thank you my friend :) To be honest it is a case of playing it by ear mate.Some times a slight rub will be enough other times applying a little more water and a bit more pressure is needed. You get a feel for it as your actually attacking the tank. :)

I used vallejo because that is what i have, but there is many good brands on the market also. I hear that there is some great large size varnishes in the canvas style painting world that work great also like Daller rowney , winsor newton and many more :)

You could do all the techniques with a regular brush for sure mate. The nature of the chipping and weathering actually helps hide blemishes that could occur using a regular brush on a large flat surface :) Have a great Christmas mate :)

About the Heavy Chipping fluid, I'm completely sold. I just got a question. If I want to shade my model by let's say using my hairbrush to give a basecoat and then bring a light color to shade in the center. Will the chipping fluid take out BOTH of my layers?

Would it be possible to apply the chipping solution to smaller models on a smaller scale without an airbrush? I was thinking of using this technique to weather marines around the boots, lowers legs, knees, those sorts of areas, would this work? Or are there more appropriate techniques to achieve this? Many thanks, and great vids! :)

Question- why didnt you paint the green stripe when you were painting th white and chip them at the same time?
@OrcPainterNerd
@OrcPainterNerd 12 жыл бұрын
That would be hard to pull off using metallic paint and having a colour show up underneath would not be ideal. maybe using a black for the undercoat then chipping your chosen metallic over the top of the black. I do think it is a hard colour to make work with this technique. If you try it let me know how you get on mate :)

Great tutorial, you make it look so simple. Now I think I might have to order some more stuff :-) But regarding the chiping with the brush. Did you have to press down relatively heavy or just lightly brush over it?

As I´m sadly not owning an Airbrush... do you have any experiences for weathering without using an Airbrush? I know it makes much of the work easier and faster but at the moment I cannot aford to buy one so I´d be realy interested in some techniques if you know some! And besides, great tutorial but as some people allready said, the music is way too loud, especialy at the end.

for those decals you might want to get a rotary cutting knife, it's a bit like a compass with a knife blade attached at one point so you can cut perfectly circular discs, it's fantastic :D

Spent a couple of hours watching your videos and found them very useful. I have been making models for a couple of years, but you make it look so easy. I have all the gear, but no idea :) Also, just got my first airbrush and very eager to try it after watching your beginners guide. Great vids, your voice isn't annoying like a lot of them and you explain things very well. I would like to point out however, that I actually counted the number of times you say 'actually', and it's actually A LOT! Just kidding mate, keep up the good work.

Halfords primers are great in the UK as they a real surface primers. I am sure that GW paints are not really primers and just pressurised spray paint. From what I am aware GW rattle can paints are not ideal for forge world resin.

If you want to achieve a similar effect in less time (and you don't own an airbrush) you can stipple on masking fluid (preferably latex based) using a scouring pad or toothbrush, and then use a makeup applicator, or bit of cloth to rub it away once you've painted your next layer over that. I'd actually recommend the method I've just described for your minifigs, since it allows you much more control than, perhaps, an airbrush would do on such a small area. Also, decalfix is your friend. :P

I think your a little off the mark here. The fluff and artwork for the Death guard is rusty as hell bud. To be honest I wanted to go for a realistic weathered look some times your own artistic vision is more important than a passage in a book. The phrase "artistic license" springs to mind even though in this case it follows fluff. Its great you like to make your vehicles dirty we all have our own style. the world would be a little boring if we all did things the same. Have a great Chrimbo :)
