Ill have to get with my folks at spraygunner and order one of those chisels.. looks like a very useful easier to control tool than a blade. The quality of your vids are exceptional great job on your channel.
@theartworkshop Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks so much man! you've been doing some great work on your channel as well. The cat one is fantastic. Yeah, the chisel seems to work very well so far. Not sure if it's going to dull with more use, but so far so good. Idk if it's better than an xacto blade though. Let me know your thoughts if you pick one up.
@TheAIRspace Жыл бұрын
@@theartworkshopThank you! I certainly will. let you know about the chisel!. i had to really hang back on making vids a long time while we dealt with family stuff. I'm busy as all get out however I plan on being at least semi consistent on content. i could always sneak in some fast videos, but i really want to make better quality videos and as you know it eats up a lot of time quickly. The cat video was a rarity where i record a customer project. I tend to look at those as realistic enough with a bit of extra pop. which is the look i go for balancing time versus how much detail I can put in one. Unfortunately once you start doing commissions the price reflects how much work you can put into them. But i have it down to where the customer gets a good painting at a price not reserved for the upper class :)

@@TheAIRspace it's tough to keep consistent videos going. I struggle too. Painting is what i love, so I just consider myself very lucky for being able to do it. I agree with you that it's best to go with better content than quick videos. If they weren't so time consuming to make, I'd do more too. keep up your good work!

Hi, how nany gesso coats do you apply over the canvas? For example, are you using wood canvas mdf or paper? And the blade work perfectly? Have you ever try over couche paper?
@theartworkshop Жыл бұрын
usually 8-10 coats on the canvas. I have a full video on how to prepare a smooth canvas. check that one out!

When you speak of Gesso, Are you speaking of the primer? Can it be painted on or does it need to be applied with a Taping Knife? (Spackle Knife) And what brand do you use? I want to use more erasing techniques. Thanks Man!

Can I ask are transparents better for portraits or opaque kind regards 🙏🏼
@theartworkshop7 ай бұрын
Both are excellent, but it depends on your style of painting and what you prefer. Transparent are great for textures and opaques are very good for smooth even masses of color & value. For portraits I generally prefer transparent these days, but I used to only use opaques back in the day. Both have their place

Not being rude or critical but don't those lines in the canvas annoy you? If it were me, I would make sure they were gone before even starting. But maybe I'm too fussy lol. Anyway, great work my friend you're the best on KZbin please keep up the great videos it's a big credit to you and even better that you teach and inspire others well done!
@theartworkshop Жыл бұрын
That's not fussy or critical at all- thats a good question. Truth is that yeah, I'd prefer them not to be there but it's actually the bright video lighting that makes them so noticeable. Not all that noticeable in normal lighting or day light. But yeah, sometimes I rush the sanding part of canvas prep and things like this happen. I just move on to the next painting!
