Thanks to everyone for watching, if you have any questions about my processes (covered in the video or not), please don't hesitate to leave a comment or send me an email, I'd love to hear from you. I want to give a quick shout out to Jagelsdorf and his youtube channel, 'Jagelsdorf Creates' for requesting this video after the recent guard tower build video. If you haven't checked out his channel, I highly recommend it, he does some really cool stuff, and quite often with materials I haven't considered before, which I love to see! Very creative channel, and really good content. Take care all.

Rattle cans, especially if you use alchol spray cans will give you a effect called dry fall. It gives a grainy texture effect. It's useful for doing textures like soil or moss. They also make concrete in a spray can and they also make oxidizers. If want to make copper look old just apply the oxidizer, same for wood etc.

Great paint work! I watched the guard tower build and the painting tutorials and I think they are very impressive. I think the airbrush is a very handy tool and I have used one for many years. Thanks for sharing this and I look forward to any tutorial you have the time to make as I do learn from them.

No worries John. I'm glad you're getting some value from these, I have plenty more to come. The airbrush was probably one of my favourite investment into my hobby time. Such a great tool and worth every cent. Even the first cheap one I had was worth it's weight in gold. Thanks for watching, and as always I appreciate the comment mate.

Good Day Modelcomrade. This is a very good work. And the advice s with the build and paint from the Tower are wonderful.. Because my next project is a postapocalyptic Fort with guns and Howitzers and the Figures from Masterbox. Skullclan and other Figures from the series... 😃Enjoy your weekend and Thanks for the Inspiration in the Video. Greets from Christian

Great Job. Awesome weathering. Love the rust stains on the concrete. I may have to invest in an airbrush.

Thanks very much. The airbrush takes some practice in regards to paint thinning and pressure when you're starting out, and there's lots of great videos that go into more detail for beginners. But if you do get yourself an airbrush and need any help, just hit me up by email, I'd be more than happy to lend a hand if I can. It's one of my better investments for sure.

I love everything about this. But im freaking out on the stairs and all the tiny bonds holding all the extra detailing like how do you make those tiny joints as solid and firm as the rest of the model? Im thinking it still needs to be set in a solid base. But im still freaking out about the toothpicks breaking and hateing different kinds of glue? Whats best to hide glue gunk and can different micro tubeing come in handy to simulate concrete or metal base supports. Concrete pillar supporters? I love building mini ideas. And i really miss the hobby
@RFDHobby
@RFDHobby 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. I found with the toothpicks that using PVA wood glue worked best, some of these joints I did go back and add a 2nd spot of glue to the joints to ensure they held. The PVA glue shrinks quite a bit as it dries, so it doesn't leave a lot of glue gunk. It seems to also bond the wood really well. I've had a few moments where I've knocked this build and thought I might have broken it, but it has held up well (my current plan for a breakage is to just re-glue it or replace the broken part, which shouldn't be too hard). I think a base is probably the best idea for this however. I was in a bit of a phase of not putting bases on stuff to help them be usable in different situations, but I'm not sure this is as important as having the thing last a long time. Micro tubing and stuff would be a great way to add on supports to these, and would look great, especially with the base. I hope this answers your questions mate. Thank you for the comment and questions.

Why don't you pre thin the craft paints for your airbrush? ;D I't always nice to check out how others are painting, i was looking forward to this video!
@RFDHobby
@RFDHobby 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jagelsdorf. Honestly, once you've put some proper airbrush paint through the airbrush, it's hard to go back to non-specific paint mixes. The quality of the paint does make a big difference to the outcome, and the ease of use. I started with mixing cheap paints for the airbrush, and it will usually work ok, but to really see what your airbrush can do, I recommend getting paints designed for this use.

Looks good, but can't help but notice you made the roof way too high. shouldn't be more than 3x as high as the sandbags IMO
@RFDHobby
@RFDHobby Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it does look a bit off, I must have been thinking about accessibility for the models, but I could easily get away with a shorter roof, or a removable one if necessary. Thanks for the comment mate.

Help!. You're modelling help has bumped my game a lot but I'm still learning. So I went and bought an airbrush finally to use some of the painting techniques and it's taking more paint Than I thought for bigger pieces. Can I use methylated spirit to thin paint as I'm having a lot of trouble getting paint through and isopropyl alcohol is more expensive. Thx in advance.
@RFDHobby
@RFDHobby 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Karl! I'm no expert on airbrushing, so you might find advice different (and likely better) than mine, but I'm happy to share what I know from experience for you. Feel free to ask any other questions you have as well. As far as the thinner for your paint goes, what you really want to achieve is the paint drying as it hits the surface you're painting. So you don't want to try to give something a full thick coverage with an airbrush on each pass, but build up a few layers of paint that will eventually fill the area in completely if that's what you're after. If you thin with too much water for example (or apply your paint too thick), you can get the paint staying wet on the surface and the air from the airbrush may even push the paint around and cause unwanted effects. So ISO works better as a thinner because it will dry really quickly as it comes out of the airbrush. I don't know about metho as an alternative, but we're making terrain here as well, and I remind myself that for a lot of what I'm doing, good enough IS good enough at this point of the project. So if the metho goes on and doesn't do anything funky to your paints, you could do this for sure (someone may be able to advise whether or not methylated spirits will hurt anything in your airbrush, because I have no idea sorry). Personally, I use the Army Painter Airbrush Medium as it seems to have a flow improver as well, so I don't get as much of the paint drying on the tip of the airbrush, or clogging up. But I'm in a fairly hot climate up here in Queensland, so it makes a difference as well. It's up to you how that stuff might compare to what you're spending on ISO, but I found it superior to ISO and worth it for when nothing else is working. Painting terrain with the airbrush for me is really about coverage first, so I've thinned with water and iso, as well as a few different thinners to find the 'best stuff', but I'll still throw water in and have a go if the thinners aren't nearby haha (if it works I keep just keep going, if not, I get the good stuff). Not sure if this is helpful or not mate. But let me know if you think I can help further. Cheers, Shawn.
