This weeks wargaming terrain tutorial covers making some fairly simple builds that work really well together. Miniature Dumpsters, Garbage bags and Street signs are a great addition to the tabletop for most modern, sci-fi, or post-apocalyptic tabletop settings and really help to bring a scene to life. In the video I'll scratch build all these pieces using easy to find materials from most craft stores or dollar shops. I'll also cover how to make simple hinges for the lids of the dumpster if you want to take it to that level, or you can simply just skip that part and glue your miniature dumpster lids straight on to get these table ready really quickly. For tips on how to paint up these miniature dumpsters, you can visit this video here for an in-depth look at painting, weathering, rusting, and adding posters... • Add Rust, Weathering, ... Those look awesome. Like the idea of using the tape formed over the stacked card to simulate the molded plastic of the lids. Hindsight is 20/20. perhaps the lid hinges on top or behind the rear panel instead of inside the bin. Great work.

Never thought of using tea lights like that! I think that could work for random quick patching too, like on ramshackle vehicles or shacks.

haha, the dark corners and recesses of my room must be filled with little pieces of toothpicks and matchsticks I think, because when they go like that, they're just gone! I generally don't even bother getting up to look anymore :)

Some nice things in this video! The dumpsters look great, although for me I think fiddling around with the thinner card board would drive me nuts, even with the craft tape, lol. I prefer to use foam core. Although the bonus with using the thinner card stock is you can have those open lids which are pretty awesome! (I may still have to try and make one). Love love love the lids you made. Will definitley have to make some of those for myself. The garbage bags are great, and very similar to what Mel the Terrain Tutor has created in the past - although I like the idea of using multiple pebbles and not just one (as Mel does). And those signs! Brilliant! Definitely the highlight of the video for me!! The tealight metal!! Thanks for the inspirations! I have subscribed to the channel!
@perrygrosshans8537

One of the tips that Mel (Terrain Tutor) mentions with the garbage bags, is that he uses the "cheaper" shinier brand, and he does double up the fabric over the pebble. He found the "matt" bags looked too fake. I notice you only use 1 layer, and they look good! Guess it might depend on the bags, and one's preference. :)

Thanks Perry. Yeah, the sign turned out great. That metal from the tea lights will come in handy down the track for sure. Cheers.

I found having pebbles in the bags helped them sit better, and two layers of plastic made the top of the bag look a bit off. But it is like you say, dependant on what you have available. Thanks for comments!

Great build, with some great ideas. Question: you used something you called "craft tape", and said it had a smooth back, but I'm unable to find that. All of the hits for "craft tape" are either small with novelty colors and patterns, or they have texture on the back. Can you please name a brand?

I’ve never done anything like this, so I can’t just run with it. I need detailed instructions on what to do. My husband drives truck for a trash company for 25 years. I would love to make one. But every single one of these tutorials are lousy at explaining things in detail.
