Anna, Oh my Goodness, Great Video !!!! I enjoyed your video While having my cup of coffee This morning I really liked the tip using the plastic wrap.... If you need more bats and don't want to buy them or mess with plaster.... you can also throw them on your wheel using the plastic wrap method, then fire it to 08 so it is still soft enough to use a ceramic drill bit to drill your bat pin holes. If you fire to 04 it will be harder to drill and it might break. Also allow for the shrinkage so it will be still big enough for your holes..Dont ask how I know that one LOL.. Mark your holes by using an another bat like a plastic one. I like the clay bats because they are thinner and no plaster residue in my clay. I like clay bats, Ive got some I've had for over 15 years. They dry like the plaster bats but don't were down. You might want to check your wheel head to see if it is level. if it off slightly you'll end up always trimming all your tops and your bats will be thicker on one side than the other. You shared a tip with me so I hope I am sharing a tip with you. I was using wax paper in the past, but Im defiantly going to try the plastic wrap. Looks like it will work a lot better than the wax paper Thank you for your video Im going to try your plastic wrap today 😃🙏

Thank you so much Tammy! I love your tip for the clay bats! I never thought of that. I know some people swear by the hydro bats, but I agree with you the clay is better!💕 I need to try that! You might be right about my wheel. I just brought it back from my sunroom into my garage studio and I noticed that things get wobbly lately. It might not be leveled! Thanks again!🙏🏻💕

I adore your work! Once you're done with the underglazing of these gorgeous pieces, do you then do a clear coat of glaze and fire to cone 6? I'm so eager to try these techniques - your sculpting and color work are absolutely magical! THANK YOU!

Hi Ana! Great video. I'd love to know how your mix your oxide washes. Your birds are beautiful! You're such a talented artist. Thank you for sharing your technique!

Thank you so much Pat! For the Copper wash: 50/50 Copper Carbonate and Gerstley Borate, then add water. For the RIO WASH: 50/50 Red Iron Oxide, and Gerstley Borate, then add water. I’ll add this to my description!👍🏻 I’ve added a little bit of yellow iron oxide also but it didn’t make any difference so I wouldn’t do it again. Just the RIO and GB.

@@anasclayhouse Thank you! Does the GB help the oxide adhere or melt better? I see some people that just use the oxides without the flux.

@@patspotpage Yes it’ll help to melt and it becomes almost like a glaze. You can actually apply the wash and fire without a glaze. I bisque fired with the wash and it gets a satin sheen to it.

Hi Ellen, on the birds I used all Duncan and Amaco underglazes and then applied Kittens Clear on the eyes, beaks and the bases. I also added a few drops of Laguna Emerald Isle and Skye to the tree trunks. The kittens clear is the clear glaze I mix and you can find the recipe under my community posts.👍🏻

@@anasclayhouse oh thank you! I am going to check that out! It is in my planning to make my own glazes. But first I have to get ready for a show! Everything is exploding in the kiln so it is going to be tight!
