Definitely have to say I'm glad I found this channel. I plan to start working on some models I have lying about (admittedly a tad larger than Hotwheels cars) and have been planning to make them look wasteland-like. Well, first I wanted to just rat rod them, but adding spikes, guns, and fire is a bit more interesting, plus I have a story idea in my head and it would be pretty useful to see what the characters drive around in. The first I plan to work on is a 1/25 scale 1924 Ford 3-in-1 Rat Rod kit, and I already have some parts picked out: a new engine (a Plymouth 482 with blower), larger wheels, different rims, and a WW2 German weapon set (I'm planning to have a MG-34 poking out the front windshield, mostly for hit-and-run tactics). Just gotta buy the parts at this point, which is already getting close to $90 for everything, minus paint, washes, and rust pigments. After that, I'll start working on a 1940s Ford Coupe, also 1/25 scale. I don't know where I'll go with this one yet, but I've found the engine I want to use, which is a Chevy 582 with blower (Chevy motor in a Ford? blasphemous, I know.) I'll keep looking around and see what strikes my rust covered fancy. After that, I know I want a truck. Currently, I'm deciding between two GMC pickups, one from 1984 and the other from 1978. Might go with the latter for the boxier look, really. Anyway, before I get lost in a tangent, a lot of your videos have been rather useful, such as creating custom grills with plasticard, this rust tutorial, and (even though you didn't show it per se) how to add spikes to wheel hubs. Keep up the good work!

How i do rust is u use a Terra-cotta orange and typhus corrosion texture paint then i go over with a metallic red brown rust enamel then dry brush the areas i want to be fresh rust with gw rust then i go all over the area with Tamiia rust pigment i will sometimes even do some chipping of the paint color around the rust to make it look like the rust is eating away the metal and paint i get a 96% realistic rust that way

Nice works as always James! There are so many different ways to do rusting, I prefer weathering powders, but to each their own. One question I have is: Why do you paint the windows, when it is a car with an interior? I understand it if the car has no visible interior, but it just doesn't make much sense to me as to why you do it if you can see right into the car.

Personal preference and force of habit I suppose 😉 I've never really liked the clear plastic toy cars tend to come with, and I think it looks better when it's all done. Finishing touches, that sort of thing. And it can help bring a little colour to break up the solid tone of the rest of the car 😂

new challenge... scratch build a miniature gaslands car... any tools and parts can be used but nothing from any existing car is allowed ie making body, wheels, base ect from scratch... rules are: must be a roller (even barely) must be in the standard matchbox scale, must not include any parts from any car. otherwise, go wild. i have never built a miniature gaslands car before although i have made some post apocalyptic rc cars of a much larger scale. if you are interested in this challenge then i will build and upload my attempt. hopefully (if accepted) this challenge will gain a few other challengers as it will show that you wouldn't even need a car to begin with, merely a little creativity... i plan on making mine out of scraps i have laying about and other than paint and glue, i plan on spending no money creating this. what do you think? something you think you could get on board with?

@@jhminiatures7867 oh dear... i guess it'll soon be time to show the world how badly i can make a build video... never done any kind of video like this before so appologies in advance to all who see it... i just hope my creation can make up for it... but again, never done anything like this before... i do like a challenge, but i fully expect to get schooled here... but hey, its all in the name of fun and sharing ideas... i should be able to build, edit and upload within the week (like yourself, i have other commitments this would need to work around)
