I had been playing with camo techniques and done pretty good. When I seen this video of what you are doing, the one thing that really makes the job now is the second layer of cool you put on it by moving the "Template" over just a touch, and hit it with a contrasting color. Man this makes all the difference in the world. Great advice here, and I have done some great work with lots of complements from watching this video. Excellent Job!!!

Gotta say that this "CAMO" paint style series is the most creative and original to date. Great work brother. You have given me TONS of ideas! BTW IMO the clear coat that you gave to 1 portion of the rear of that boat made the camp look 3-D compared to the non clear coated side. I would do the entire boat with the CC when done! Good work!

I have thought about using RED I'm my color schemes but never tried it yet (you did the trick) also a flat GOLD will add a new aspect to the color grid IMO. I love it!
@marydunlop5199 жыл бұрын
+Dan Jacob Thanks Dan. I do like the red, but it doesn't take much to make it stand out. Hmmm, Gold. I like that idea. I'm going to have to try it on my next project. I've got a lady friend that wants a stripe on her mini van. I'll run it past her. Thanks!

came out good.....never thought about using white though. and using clear coat just takes away from the flat paint.... lol...i had a 71 ford, that i did thiss to in 2001. came out great.right now im doing a trailer.it was an old military one....... your method and tips are better than some i have seen on you tube... always start with the light colors first. the blacks adds depth and shadow...

I only have about $30.00 invested in this paint job. $18.00 for the green base coat. I bought exterior flat latex paint and rolled it on. Plus 3 cans of spray flat black, white and red. Don't waste your money on the "Camo" spray paint. Best part is if (more like when) it gets scratched, all I got to do is get out the spray cans and touch it up, easy.
@my2centz1966 жыл бұрын
Taking cheap paper glue and making templates is also very easy and awesome. Lots of videos on it and when it dried its like a professional latex reusable stencil. All you have to do is take a very small amount of oil any kind rub lightly on smooth surfaces (I used glass works great) then take white paper glue (I got a bunch at Walmart back to school $0.25 each) and make a pattern and allow it to dry. After about 24hrs it will look clear and you can take a razor loosen a corner then just pull it up. It's reusable as I mentioned earlier and flexible plus you can make them as big as you like. If you use to much oil the glue will separate or run together so very lightly. I've made a bunch of them different patterns. It's easy and fun lol

@@boogatrouble "imitation is the highest compliment" :-) I'm thinking to make a base layer similar in style to the one in this vid, and then some bits of sponge painting. What's fun about these projects is that if you screw it up, it's not a big deal to shoot it again. Maybe I'll do it smart, and practice it on something else first. I have a couple of good but ugly (black plastic) rifles that desperately need some help.

Dave...just saw the vid great job! One question tho what all prep work did you do to the boat before painting? If sanding what grit paper did you use? Thanks
@boogatrouble8 жыл бұрын
I did do a lot of prep work. The boat actually had a small hole in it that had been patched before I bought it, but I re-patched it using fiberglass. Honestly, it was 5 years ago, I don't remember what grit I used. I'm thinking somewhere in the 100 range. Glad you like the vid. If you have more questions, I'd be glad to help.
@my2centz1966 жыл бұрын
I'd probably use anywhere from 250 to 600 grit depending on the surface but the paint will look better the higher grit paper the smoother and better it will look. Most decent spray paints will bond well to a lightly scuffed surface.

larry e I did wipe it down, but just with water and let it dry. The boat was pretty beat up but the camo really helped cover up the imperfections. I wouldn't worry to much about the small imperfections honestly. I would like to see your trailer when your done with it.
