Self-etching primer is for use on metal, not plastic. Don't waste the money. Get a primer that is made for plastic and is made to be flexible. Also, I've used that same spray can bedliner and it does NOT hold up; chips off even with good prep. Don't waste the $8 per can. Use Crylon Fusion; it has the proper chemical makeup to adhere to plastics. And as outside input: I like the idea of your channel but can't understand many of the words you say. Speak slower and enunciate! Thanks for uploading.

True also etching primer is more for exposed bare metal, you may use a primer sealer next time or an epoxy primer to skip the etching primer for small areas the show exposed bare metal. Over looks good and amazing but for the long run, it may start to peel off.

Good idea dude. I'll probably pull mine off and remove the lights before I sand them, but I like the idea of using the spray bed liner. Couple of questions - does it tear up sponges/towels when you wash it? Did you ever use the clear coat on them? How did it turn out?

If your fenders are just faded from the exposure to UV light just use a heat gun you can pick one up fairly cheap at harbor freight and best of all no prep work necessary except for it being clean. Keep heat on one spot at about 1000 degrees F. the II setting on that particular model until the plastic turns dark and slowly go across the fender renewing all the non painted plastic parts. I wouldn't recommend DIY spray on bedliner if your planning on offroading it that stuff scuffs off easy. Maybe a DIY polyurethane bedliner or getting it professionally lined.
@manny6584
@manny6584 10 жыл бұрын
That harbor freight heat gun is a POS. His fender was chipped so heat would not do any good anyway . painting was a better fix.

I have also found that using a very light first coat seems to work well, as paint seems to stick to paint the best. I profess to be no paint and body man though, ymmv. You would think after all these years Jeep would have gotten this faded fender problem worked out, Oh well, I love my Jeep regardless.

Almost perfect, liked the way you cover anything and you knew about the primer, but you needed to coat of primer and send it in between and then 2 coat of bedliner...the way you did it will have more texture to it...but it’s bedliner i guess it doesn’t really matter

Before you sanded the fender, was the texture a bit rough? as in it's not pure smooth. I want to spray to match my car's body color, with gloss, though now it's matte with small pores (matte), not really sure of the steps I should approach this. Should I sand it first to make it smooth then apply black paint then gloss, or I can just skip the sanding to spraying.

It is really easy to remove the fenders. Why not just remove the fender and then paint it. That way you would make sure not to get paint on the Jeep, or have any spots that were blocked by tape. It looks like you did a great job taping it, but for me it would have been easier to just remove it.

~USE HEAT NOT PAINT!!~ IF YOUR FLARES HAVE NEVER BEEN PAINTED...HIT THEM WITH A HEAT GUN IT WILL RESTORE THEM TO ALMOST NEW ASIDE FROM DEEP SCRATCHES. YOU CAN USE A PROPANE TORCH TOO BUT PRACTICE ON A HIDDEN SPOT BECAUSE THAT'S INTENSE HEAT AND CHANGES THE SURFACE REALLY FAST

Ugh, you're using that spray like an axe on that fender. Why are you chopping at it like that and creating pools and thin spots? It's not going to wear and fade evenly, with the thin spots giving you trouble quick. Strip it down and start again, this time sanding with 220 to scuff, covering evenly and completely with the primer, then the same with the paint. Three even coats with the paint will make the future you a lot happier as well. You better check to see if that product can take a clear coat too before just blasting it on. You won't get away with that choppy spraying with the clear coat either. If you screw like you paint, you're woman will eventually take her business to a more skilled service representative my man. I would imagine she fast forwards a lot as well.
