This was just the tutorial I needed! Had painted Guilliman Flesh over Retributor Armour for my Black Legion and pondered how do I highlight this and make it look more golden but retain the base colour underneath. Thanks! Brilliant as always.

Looks amazing! I want to use a similar method for my Death Guard bronze armour pieces. Which brushes do you use? I have tried the medium artificier brush from GW and I find that it doesn't have enough belly to hold paint...
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures5 жыл бұрын
That sounds great! I use Raphael 8404 sizes 1 and 2, those are my favourite brushes and the ones I do most of my work with
@AndrewHilson5 жыл бұрын
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Ah super cool. Yeah, I've been finicky about my brushes since getting back into the hobby (20 year hiatus! Dug out all my old Dark Elves from my parents basement last week HA. I'm going to have a look at the Raphael's as well as the Artis Opus. I have trouble getting a really nice point and actually prefer a larger brush to a smaller one... You have some brilliant work, man. I've been painting a combination of contrast and traditional with my Death Guard. Used diluted Space Wolves for a blueish look, instead of the traditional bone colour but I love this one that you did recently BTW.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I really appreciate that. Regarding brushes I actually have an Artis Opus set and I don't really like it very much. It's ok but they don't have as much belly as Raphaels. I also recently bought a set of Brokentoads MK3 and they are very good but the set includes two brushes that are too small for me.
@AndrewHilson5 жыл бұрын
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Cheers for that feedback. The Opus' look very nice but there's no real way to see, or feel them here (I'm in Canada BTW). So I really appreciate that feedback; they do look gorgeous FWIW. I had a look at Raphael's as well as the Winsor and Newton's. Didn't pull the trigger because I wanted to give the GW one's a go (they're apparently made in the same factory as W+N). Maybe I'm just too picky...I dunno. I want to give the wet palette a go from RGG (waiting on its arrival this week) and see how I do. Strangely, I've really loved my daughters GW M Base brush lol. Super still and I can sort of get the point that I want.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures5 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewHilson I have the RGG palette XL, in fact I have two. They are awesome, 100% recommend. I have also a set of W&N Series 7 and they are good too, better than the GW ones but still not as good as Raphael (that's my opinion BTW)

Do you think you could do this with contrast? like maybe basecoating with silver then covering it with Aggaros Dunes or something? i've not tried it but would love an easier way to do them
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures5 жыл бұрын
Well, technically this IS done with Contrast as I applied a coat of Guilliman Flesh over the whole thing. That being said I think that would work actually, maybe using Nazdreg Yellow, but Why? If you are going to Basecoat with Leadbelcher or silver why not Basecoat it with Retributor armour? Also Retributor is also in spray form

Hello. What do you think about using Basilicanum Grey mixed with less medium instead of using Black Templar with a lot of medium?

It can work definitely. My only concern is that the pigment is more greyish and won't look as good. But that being said it can definitely work perfectly well, I'm just very picky with my colours
