Btw, when airbrushing enamel colours, always use a carbon filter and make sure that your workplace is ventilated really good. You can ignore this when doing some short airbrush work with acrylics, but this stuff is toxic. I did this once and I had an open window right next to my airbrush station and a fan pointing towards the window.

Not normally a fan of Stormcast but this particular model (Lord Veritant?) and her bird-dog companion really spoke to me. In fact, she said "Make me grimdark!", so I looked on youtube for inspiration and lo and behold!

I've been waiting for this video since you posted the model on reddit. Originally I wanted to stray away from Gold Stormcast for my army because I thought it looked too heroic, but your paint scheme combines the iconic Stormcast look with a much darker, more worn vibe, and I love it! I'll be giving this scheme a try with my army. I don't have an airbrush yet sadly - Is there anything you'd modify for doing this all by brush?
@SpensPainting4 ай бұрын
@@AcoraZ3RO thank you so much for your kind words! You could absolutely do this with a brush, nothing especially would be different! I would suggest using a gold spray primer, and then the grime can be applied using a brush, make sure to use a cheap or old brush as they don’t keep your tips sharp!

Absolutely love it. Really. Fall in love with that style since you post it on instagram. Wondering if it’s possibile to do with silver for make hallowed knight host. If I’m not wrong you need to use very bright color like silver because grime will lower the brightness of color, right?

While this is good for quick results and it does make for a a really good looking tabeltop standard I feel like this is the most basic and sort of discount level of grimdark. Since it leaves every model looking a bit samey it also robs the miniatures of a bit of character.
@SpensPainting3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment and kind words! What would you add to generate more character?

@@SpensPainting I think part of it is the fact that the streaking grime reduction technique has been pretty common among youtubers for a few years now. Since its so common you get a lot ofminiatures with the same sort of ambiance. It for sure has a place but perhaps adding some steps to make it more uniquely your process would move towards something more distinctively yours. Admittedly thats sort of shitty advice in response to video intended to be instructional and widely applicable.

I think the best starter kit is the Fengda FD-186K geni.us/4zJre (amazon affiliate link). It has a great compressor and airbrush that will last you a long time and isn't overly complicated for a beginner either. In addition you probably want a cleaning pot, and some airbrush cleaner (I recommend Vallejo) and you'll 100% want a respirator geni.us/WwARJi (amazon affiliate link)

looks amazing man ! I,m terrified of airbrushing enamel though, what are your safety tips ? i hear the particles hang in the air for a while and it's pretty toxic.
@SpensPainting4 ай бұрын
Thanks very much! Pretty much the same as all airbrushing really, make sure to spray in a well ventilated area and use something to catch the overspray (cardboard boxes are great) if you have a proper airbrush booth with extractor those are the best, and always wear a mask! Having said all of that, you can always apply the grime with a brush and get similar results!

Would nuln oil shade work instead of the black enamel?
@SpensPainting3 ай бұрын
You could use nuln oil but it will tint the colours you’re putting it over more than the enamels and won’t flow quite as well into the recesses but it can work. Just make sure the reduced grime has fully dried before you use it as enamels and acrylics don’t mix well!
