to add to Henry's bit about the artist oils around 7:00, do not bother with Windsor Newton's cheaper oils , the Winton line. they break apart very easily when being thinned to a wash consistency. i never have this problem except with my Winton oils. just like every other paint, you get what you pay for!

This is gorgeous, will absolutely be stealing it! I enjoyed the format. Especially if they're easier for you to do and give you more time to work on other exciting things. Certainly agree that painting the rest of the mini was unnecessary for the purposes of this video. Maybe it would work to do a part 2 of sorts where you do take it from the point of all the gold being done to bring a fully painted miniature? Especially for versus box-set releases. I ordered Skaventide with no clue what I'd do with the Stormcast; this video got me excited to do them, but I still don't know what I'll do for the non-gold parts 😅

Scale 75 Necro Gold is not currently available in the USA due to distribution issues, do you guys have a recommendation for a similar color I could try? I really like the paint job and most gold miniature paints like GW Retributor Armor are for too warm and orange for me. P3 Blighted Gold looks similar to me but is also currently not available, the P3 brand was purchased by another company and hasn't restocked in months. EDIT: For anyone seeing this, as of now there are a few gold TMM sets by scale 75 that has the paints used in the video available on amazon. S75's European store also has stock and you might be able to get them to ship to the USA if you ask.

Love this thanks Henry and team!! Brilliant having almost two schemes within the one army tying it all together. My question is what do you think of say a purple ink/wash for the gold coming from beneath? I’m a sucker for purple and my idea for them the main other colours would be purple (replacing the traditional blue) with turquoise and black. Unsure if it would bleed the colours too much or not work so well with the gold
@cultofpaint6 ай бұрын
shading gold with purple is fine, but has definitely become a gimmick. If you want to do it with a purpose, like to create some harmony on your scheme then that's a great idea bud.

Do you think that, an opaque acrylic varnish layer, via airbrush, BUT after basecoating the metallic armour and pinwashing/washing it with oils, apart removing that glossy finish that some oils can have, could be useful for an increased contrast with the standard brush highlights you do for completing the model???

Great video Henry. I have never tried oils or enamels, have always been intimidated. But after seeing a few videos recently, yours included, I am thinking about attempting it with some grimdark stormcast of my own. Have you had a chance to try out the newly released Villiany inks enamel paints? A few videos have implied that these may be good for a beginner stepping to enamels. If you have any thoughts, I'd appreciate hearing your opinion. Thanks.
@cultofpaint6 ай бұрын
Hey, great to hear youre tempted by the oils! I'd recommend picking up a brown and orange and a black. You can use them to create rust, dirt, shading etc on so many projects. Ive got a set of the Villainy inks and I want to use them some more, because so far I've been very unimpressed, i certainly wouldnt say they are any more beginner friendly than any other enamel wash. Oils and enamels offer slightly different things, but oils definitely have a much broader usage.
@glennylebeau44926 ай бұрын
@@cultofpaint Thanks for the reply, I will definitely look into trying some out. I did have a slight suspicion that the villainy inks may be one of those over hyped, well marketed gimmicks. I appreciate your honesty. Thanks for the inspiration, looking forward to your next video.

How long do you let the oil paint sit on the cardboard in this case? I need to be better about using my oil paints even if it's just for washes. that one was only on there for a couple minutes. There's not a huge amount of excess oil in that tube. It will vary paint to paint. And there's millions of vallejo metals, i dont know an exact one off the top of my head but im sure you could create one easily with their stuff.
