Great video Don! The people that complain to you should learn there is no best technique, only the ones you like to apply, so try not to listen to the negatives too much. As for golden demon models, all models can be golden demon level. But mostly they are conversions so the model is somewhat unique. The rest is down to how much time you want to spent to get it to the best level. But recommendations are hero/character models. Just pick one where you would like to add a detailed freehand to, since a lot of golden demon winners feature detailed free hands, which I know you are good at ;-)
@DonSuratos2 жыл бұрын
Oh custom! I havent researched yet... I did not know, you need to custom. Like a huge custom base, diorama like, then freehand the cape and paint environement effects? No worries with the comments, negative or positive, comments fuels me to be better. ☺️🎨🎨🎨
@nemhod2 жыл бұрын
@@DonSuratos Yep for golden demon they go all out, from bases, freehands (on capes, etc. 40k has a lot of skulls for example ;-)), etc. and even kitbashing different models together or as simple as changing the hand on a model or repositioning some elements. Wouldn't say it is needed to compete, but most people who win did a lot of custom conversion work on the model. I think the only non customised model that has ever won (gold) was the old marnius calgar model. Good to hear the comments don't get you down, because love seeing your journey into developing those mini painting skills.

Don, you're an amazing painter, you don't need to be a Golden Daemon painter to be a great teacher. I love the humor and funny comments you make in your videos. It gives them a nicer, human, touch. I’m not into Warhammer so I cannot provide any indication for a week-long mini painting session…. My opinion on your mini paint jobs is that they look great, vibrant when they need to be and very “natural” in their look. I agree with you on using long oil paint brushes for certain drybrushing. Lighter touch and your wrist and forearm does not get sore! Being a scale and gunpla modeler, I agree with you about weathering approaches based not just on washes. Our hobby has improved so much in terms of products available from the time I started (1970!). Great tips on the glow effect! Btw, I’ll upload a new diorama video over the weekend….. ciao!

Excellent video, as usual, my dude. Regarding the reason why your big oil brush offers more control, if I were to venture a guess, it really comes down to physics. It takes, physically, more force to accelerate the brush to a given speed. Whilst the forces and velocities involved don't seem like much, on paper, a heavier brush serves to broaden the gradient of physical effort to forces at the bristles, allowing for a greater degree of control.

I'm really happy that I've found your channel - the way that your finished miniatures look is really unique. As for the Golden Demon model - there was a big reveal recently about the Daemon Prince being one of the lords in the Total War Warhammer 3 game. Players will supposedly be able to customize it in hundreds or even thousands of ways. How about you customizing the default awful kit and paint it in the Thousand Sons NMM style? If you're not looking forward to doing this (the Daemon Prince model really shows its age) a Maulerfiend maybe? Or anything TS in NMM would be nice to see (hardly any of those on youtube, probably because of the sheer volume of gold).

You do fantastic videos, man. Someone claiming you're not "Golden Demon" level is kind of sour grapes on their part. That's like saying "Yeah, your cooking tutorials are great, but you're no Michelin Chef." I think it's really cool watching someone who doesn't traditionally paint Warhammer minis have their own take on how to paint Warhammer minis. A lot of the techniques you use are definitely used in Warhammer mini painting (like your sponge weathering). You definitely do a lot more traditional brush painting than other youtube painters, who tend to use the airbrush to get quick shadows and highlights to achieve similar effects. Some people just feel the need to throw around their clout in the comments I guess. Someone mentioned a Dreadnought as a potential model and I agree, it's great. Some of the larger Tau battlesuits (Riptide, Stormsurge, Ghostkeel) would also be neat to see done to that high a level if you want to keep to a mecha design. Mortarion has become a popular mini for detail painting because he's big and impressive and has a lot of little details that you can draw a lot out of of. Midwinter Minis has a video where he tries to paint a Farseer to the highest detail he can manage over 24 hours and he has a highly-decorated painter give a critique on his technique. That might be a good starting point to figure out what they're looking for in how a Golden Demon would be scored.

I think you can compete and make it far. You can get a golden demon. Astra Militarum tank and commander should be the challenge
@DonSuratos2 жыл бұрын
I think I can't compete as you have to be physically in the evnt right? Thanks for the encouragement and the boring demon is funny as hell! 😅😂🤣

If you're looking for neat models to try painting a lot of visual interest, I would say look in the Horus Heresy range of models. They have a lot of very interesting details on them that even almost 10 years later still really hold up. But a model isn't going to change how well you'll be able to paint, it may show off your skills a little better but not how good you are. You already are very good, I enjoy your tutorials and even though I don't paint how you paint, I still pick up a few things you do that I think look good and add it to how I like to paint my minis. If you want to get better try branching out into other styles and work more with other materials, like painting a mini entirely with oils or something just so you can get a better feel of some techniques that you might find adds to how you would tackle other models. You are already a very good painter at what you do, but branching out would definitely help

I want to see the whole process of how you made the gun glow like that. That part of the gun is what made me click on the video.
@DonSuratos2 жыл бұрын
Oh I am sorry... I will clean up the rest of the squad, airbrush the armor and focus on the gun and glowing eyes next time.

@@DonSuratos no need for apologies. I'm just saying I would watch that if you made it. Its one of the best glow effects I've seen.

I’d say that they are display, not golden demon. However I also know that your making video which means your not spending 50-100 hours on these models. I think you have the talent and knowledge to do golden demon level quite easy. I would love to see you spend time and do a video trying to push yourself, the best model I can think of is Ork Mozrog Skragbad.
@DonSuratos2 жыл бұрын
Totally not spending more than 10 hours bro. I still have to edit. 😅. Googling that Ork Mozrog! Thanks for the feedback as always bro! ☺️🎨🎨🎨

For golden demon it's not the model choose any, it's the time and commitment some of the top KZbinrs spend 100 hundred hours or more on the 1 model.

Please dont go down the “golden dragon” video route. 99.9% of us are bronze donkeys, i quit watching the spanish guys because they are so far out of my league. No slight to your skill but your videos give me hope that i can make models look 1/2 way decent.
