Looks good, but I would suggest some things that will also save you a good amount of money in the long run. Replace Armageddon Dust with one of Vallejo or AK interactives basing materials. They cost a bit more, but a single pot has over 200 ml rather than just then 30 ml GW gets you. Second, for the dust effect on his shins I would suggest either pigments or the cheapest solution, crushed up Pastell chalk. A cheap box cost about 6 Euro on ebay and provides you with a ton of colours in earthy and rust tones and some more out there like blue or green. Really good for the grim dark look. And last tip, maybe missed it in your video, mix your gold tone with a bit of silver and drybrush you gold with it to give it some extra age and definition.

@Liberation_from_the_matrix3 жыл бұрын
The blue with just the teclis blue looks like a good start for an Emperor Spear marine. I guess nuln oil then another light drybrush of teclis blue could be good, because grime wash would darken it too much.
@FogOfGore3 жыл бұрын
For the Emperors Sprears I would go for a drybrush of Hoeth Blue. It's just a bit less bright than Teclis Blue and probably comes closer to the colours for them.

@FogOfGore3 жыл бұрын
It's a slight conversion. The original model is the lieutenant from the Dark Imperium box set (no longer available), but the helmet and the leather straps between his legs are from the Ultramarines Upgrade Pack (the original one, not the Primaris one that lacks all Greco/Roman flavour) here: www.games-workshop.com/en-EU/Ultramarines-Upgrades-2020. I think you could make something very similar with a standard intercessor and the Ultramarines upgrade pack.

The Roman vibe actually makes me want to paint up some Smurfs and i hate them lol
@FogOfGore3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha! I hear this so often! Everyone hates the smurfs because they are the poster boys, lack grimdarkness and/or are kind of bland in the lore. They just lack that flawed hero aspect that almost every other space marine chapter has. With a bit of kitbashing though, you can get an awesome Roman legion vibe. If you like this... wait until you see my Bladeguard Veterans :)

Aaah, the heretics. Cool, what do you play? The bits are from the Ultramarines Upgrade Kit, not the Primaris Upgrade Kit, but the regular one. The helmet and shoulder pad can just be glued on, the leather straps required some cutting and shaving. The beltbuckle and his cod piece had to be scraped off.

Thanks for this. I'm starting a squad of blue boys and I'm going to use this recipe. Do you mix in some white spirits with the AK streaking stuff in a small pot or go back over the model with like a q tip or something?
@FogOfGore3 жыл бұрын
Oh man, I can't believe I left that out of the video! I go over the model with white spirits as I apply the Streaking Grime. I have the brush and the pot of white spirits already open, so just wash out the brush in the white spirits and then go over the model until the wash is in the recesses. I have used the qtip technique before and I feel it is just a bit too much work for too little gain. If you are painting a display model or really want to go for top quality you might get better results with the qtip, but I paint for the table top and with the brush you get a result that is perfectly fine.

I have a question, what would you recommend to get started with AK enamel washes? :( I want some but idk much about enamels, do they offer some of these spirits? How do you clean your brushes with it?? 😭
@FogOfGore3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I am going to do an introduction video on enamels and in particular Streaking Grime soon with all this information, but for now I hope these answers help. White spirits is a solvent that you can buy in any paint hobby store, DIY store and even in the supermarket. It works in the same way as Methylated Spirits (made from alcohol and poison) and Turpentine, but it is less flammable and less irritating to your skin, eyes and lungs. If you can't find it anywhere, then you can get it from AK Interactive as well, they sell small bottles, but they are more expensive than what you can get in the supermarket. When you paint with enamels you use the white spirits instead of water. So you can use it to thin down your paint and you use it to rinse your brushes in it. Exactly the same way that you clean your brush in water. Just make sure you work with enough ventilation when you use White Spirits. It stinks and it isn't very good for you to inhale the fumes all day. Let me know if you have any more questions! The video on Streaking Grime should be done some time next week.
