Those who use the word 'nerd' derogatively would never understand the term 'tabletop art' - but that's what it is; ART! With your colour mixes, shades & blends [at micro scales, I might add] you show how painting is a singlular vocation from 2D canvas to tiny bits of 3D plastic. One vocation with many techniques but always ART! - I remember the late fantasy/satirical writer, Sir Terry Pratchett saying that he'd, occasionally been accused of 'literature'.

Dude, even being referenced in the same paragraph as the late, great, Terry Pratchett has made my day, thanks so much, I'll carry on happily nerding out over colours, and gantt-charting my army progress happily :D! Thanks for the kind words

Great technique for simple yet effective base troop. I sometimes get focused on finishing too much and try to paint every little detail, losing too much time on troops. It's hard to keep in mind that I can indulge myself on characters, but should save time on troops.

That orange scheme is gorgeous and the green is perfect for Oldhammer Gobbos to boot. I'd love to see how you tackle the Gutrippaz and all their different textures.

Absolutely love how you paint these, all three are great. I ordered my dry bushes and hoping they arrive soon so I can try out your techniques. Please keep painting the Dominion set, I'm looking forward to seeing how you paint the rest of the army.

Thanks Byron. Superb as ever! Can you give some insight as to when/why you use Lahmian rather than Contrast medium when preparing your washes? Thanks
@ArtisOpus3 жыл бұрын
Hey dude, it's basically whether I want it to behave like a Wash (Lahmian), or a contrast, they don't feel hugely different, but just to be sure, when I'm going for more recess pooling, and 'softer' effects, I use Lahmian. If I'm making something a bit more 'turbo' strength, that behaves like a contrast then I use the other. Hope that helps, thanks for the question, dude :)
@paulmurphy70873 жыл бұрын
That's helpful Byron. I will give it a go and see how I get on. Might try Lahmian when I wash some of the Knights armour panels. Loving the latest set of tutorials. Paul

All three looked great, tempted to paint all three skin and armour tones across the lot included with the dominion set, help break up the monotony a bit even if it takes a touch more time.

Hey dude, check our intro to drybrushing, it's basically to introduce a very small, but predictable amount of moisture to the drybrushing process, which increases quality loads :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oanYimWEjcp8aK8

@ArtisOpus3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Nick, with a product like Tamiya's X20 Clear red, probably - it's super deep a glossy, it's often mixed with their 'smoke' to make a more grim and less shiny looking version.

What is the purpose of dampening the dry brush? Is the moisture supposed to avoid the chalked effects commonly associated with dry brush? Wonderful work btw.

do you remember the exact mix of black-to-silver you did for the really dark armor?

Nope, it doesn't matter at all though, I would imagine 2:1 but as soon as you start adding the black bit by bit you'll be able to get a perfect colour, good luck!

I genuinely hate these models, the other orcs in the box are stunning (once I trimmed the junk off the crossbows), but to me these are lame looking, and the armour is even dumber than GW usual. This is reflected in the mass of them hitting ebay and going for peanuts, be nice if GW paid attention to that for future orc developments. I'd intended that for my 20, but just not worth boxing them up for the money I'd get, they'd be worth more to me as spruegoo. I've had another idea tho I do like the orange skin, I'll base mine on ochre I'm shaving back the armour to give me basic bodyshapes and covering them in my basing materials, mud, reeds, weeds, grasses, they're swamp ninjas. They've rolled around in the swamp, covered themselves in mud, added reeds, weeds, and leaf litter as a sort of messed up ghillie suit(ish) camo. That way I can cover all the stuff I don't like, just leave parts of the faces (swamp ninjas break up that head and shoulders silhouette) and limbs, probably with white ghost/skull facepaint showing underneath as a unifying feature for the army. They will look like determined, ambushing, skirmishing, swamp auxiliaries that know they're outclassed against most enemies in a fair fight, and just don't. I'll add bows and javelins to many instead of daggers, and equip the rest with nets. I may add some bolas, they're so easy to make, but only if I myself pick up some of the cheap ebay slittas now that I have a plan that attracts me to them, go figure. Slittaz, no. Snagga swamp commando, yes!
