I’ve always liked the lore of, the older a greenskin is, the more that it has fought, the deeper and darker green of their skin. The studio paint scheme of that .. imho nasty yellow…doesn’t work for me,. But a Very pale green? Yes!

I do love that skin, I use oil washes a lot but thicker and then clean it off most of the model with sponges and Qtips. To see the effect of gloss varnishing before a thin pinwash that I'd barely need to touch with Qtips is a real step forward for me painting tabletop standard units - and that really helps get stuff on the table looking good.
@cultofpaint3 жыл бұрын
Oils are so versatile. The reductive technique is cool too.
@philgee4863 жыл бұрын
@@cultofpaint It is, but it's a different effect than pinwashing to maximise detail. This enhanced, even cleaner pinwash from the gloss surface will work on lots of models really quickly. Well worth the extra step when batch painting, especially if I get 3 or 4 batches to that point and then varnish/wash the lot before separating the batches again.

Thank you so much for these, I've noticed there are different versions of gloss varnish produced by Vallejo. Polyurethane gloss varnish (28.650), gloss varnish (70.510) and gloss varnish (62.064). Would you be so kind to detail their differences and which one you would recommend? Thanks so much!
@cultofpaint3 жыл бұрын
62.064 - more or less airbrush ready, water based non toxic, 70.510 again water based, easy to thin. Polyurethane - more toxic, tougher, thicker. Any of them would work perfectly for what we use them for, it’s just I have a big bottle of polyurethane That hasn’t run out yet!

Really awesome paintjob! Looks way too good to be a chaff unit! I prefer this colour scheme over studio one. For my Swamp Bogglers I'm thinking about doing different skintone from my Ironjawz. IJ have standard studio colours, but for new ones I might look into doing something darker. Is it possible to paint skintone dark and yet focus attention on it? Does rest of the model has to be dull and desaturated?

@@cultofpaint yes and no. Pretty sure you know sans odor means without smell, but Winsor decided they can't copyright that, and they merged them into a made up name. Pronounce it like you want, i didn't say it bothers me. It just sounds funny to me. I'm easily amused i guess. I'm sure if you'd hear someone say "Sugareles" instead of diet coke, if Coca Cola made up a new term, it would sound ridiculous, even if they have a copyright on it, and it's now a real name of a product.

Do your preshade with a drybrush and glaze over the top. Or just layer and glaze your way there. To be honest you could just rattle can the main skin and then do pretty much everything else as is.
