Man, you just jump right into it, no annoying preamble, no stupid mid-video skit, no goofy title card intro. Crisp, clean tutorial, easy as you like. Definitely subscribing.

One of my favourite colour schemes by far! Always a fan of the gritty and grimdark version of normal very bright plasticky models!

It's definitely one of mine as well, just something about quartered schemes as well that I think are so under represented. It would not be my style thou with out some chipping and grime thrown over the top though! I do certainly love the idea brightly colored heraldic paint schemes for marines, but still covered in the dirt and scratches from countless battlefields.

@@AmnioticlyTanked Honestely the dirty look is much better. It looks far less fake and looks like a legitimate space soldier in combat. You made me want to paint new armies all the time lol

Dude right? I honestly cant stand the 'eavy metal style. My brain just refuses to accept it. Kill team is always an option? Although ever week I paint a model I get the urge to paint a whole squad like them, just don't have time.

for half half scheme to paint i used maskin tape - without the helmet glued on the marines. works like a charm :)

Did you put the backpack on or leave it separate? I'll have to give it a try again when I do marines errant or nova marines. Perhaps I struggled with this model because it had so much stuff over its chest, and the head came pre-attached

liquid latex is a little hard and iffy to use, I wouldn't recommend using it for flat line work. I don't know at which part of the masking with tape that you're finding is giving you trouble but if it's the curves of the plate I'd use a toothpick to help contour some of the edges or maybe not bother with getting the shallow angles like the at the rear of the power pack and use panel liner to cover up those imperfections. If the paint is bleeding onto the other side of the tape I heard that if you lay down the tape, hit it with a layer of gloss varnish and then spray your colors that it'll prevent bleeding but I have yet to try this. Hope that helps Also this looks great and is an easy to meet table top standard in the steps you've shown. I wish more people painted their armies or spent just a little more time painting because it really doesn't take a whole lot of time to get this down as you've shown. Really appreciate your Badab war series and I look forward to your next tutorial
@AmnioticlyTanked

The issue I had with the tape might have been specifically related to this model due to the grenades across the chest and the fact that the head was attached to the body, stupid modern GW mini designs... I have actually tired the gloss varnish trick before and I have found that the layer of gloss varnish over the tape can actually peel off in a rather "ragged" edge and take some of the top layer of paint with it. I do think though that I'm going to give masking tape another try when I get around to doing Marines Errant in a silver and metallic blue scheme! As to your last paragraph, that is exactly what I am going for! Hobby tips, tricks, and hacks to elevate models to "table top plus" with out having to revert to time consuming processes like glazing or meticulous edge highlighting. And completely agree, to me there is nothing more awesome in this hobby than two solidly painted armies facing off over a beautiful table!

@@AmnioticlyTanked oh yah, I can see what you mean now. The new GW minis aren't very user friendly, but since it wasn't primaris it didn't hit me that it was mostly inarticulate. Hopefully it's easier to do the marines errant with a different model

Simple, to a point and very good end result. I am happy that KZbin recommended me your channel and I am totally subscribing to it! P.S. Maybe you'd try some Chaos models? Apostles of Contagion, The Purge, Sanctified or something... you know, these types of more "realistic" armies as they're presented in the books like Siege of Vraks.

That's exactly what I am going for with these videos and I'm glad you found my channel! Just took a quick look though IA13 and have found the following FW renegade chapters/legions that I would certainly be interested in doing, and I just so happen to have a spare box of chaos marines sitting in my closet! Any that you would be most interesting in seeing? - Steel Brethren - The Lords of Decay - Slaughterkin - The Tainted - The Purge - Flawless Host - Apostles of Contagion,

@@AmnioticlyTanked honestly, all of these are good, but the best would be options that are different from default Legion colours. So Purge, Slaughterkin, Tainted, Flawless Host, Lords of Decay.

Great tutorial, and awesome paintjob! I'll definitely use at least part of it for my 30k Imperial Fists. Regarding the streaking grime, I assume (hope) I could use a Burnt Umber oil wash to get the same effect; however, if I were to use that instead of Streaking Grime, should I let it fully dry? I'm asking because, while (from what I've heard) enamels and oils are similar, enamels dry much faster, and so I assume the chemistry behind them is different, or something. Either way, great tutorial!
@AmnioticlyTanked
@AmnioticlyTanked 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! I would still recommend that you let the oil dry so that it looks matte, but probably not fully cure (as in leave the oil sitting around for 24 + hours). If the oils are still wet, there they are easier to smudge around and leave the paint where you don't want it. Not the end of the world, but certainly an annoyance. Honestly, I use a hairdryer to dry both my oils and enamels quickly, so I have not actually witnessed a difference in drying times.

I started off the hobby by trying to paint these guys, it almost made me stop entirely. Not a good starting point I think, I really like the way you've done the color, and the pattern is pretty darn good. I really like your style, finding a lot of inspiration from your videos. Any chance you're going to paint some Ulthwe eldar?
@AmnioticlyTanked
@AmnioticlyTanked 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah... I could not imagine trying to start this hobby off with Howling Griffons as my first army, not only is the quartered scheme kind of challenging, you also have to deal with painting yellow and a rather tricky chapter badge. What did you end up painting instead? And I'm really glad that you are enjoying my videos! I don't currently have any plans to paint Ulthwe but I would like to do a couple more craftworld schemes once the new guardians come out. Just need to find time to film and edit with everything else I want to do!

I ended up with Blood Ravens about a year later, kind of in a similar style as this video for the red with the muted colors and enamel wash. I think it's why I'm loving your channel, you're basically painting how I want to with that dark and more 'realistic' look, but streamlining it and taking it up a few levels. Your videos actually helped me learn how to do a better glowing eye lense, especially that Iron warriors one.

Ohh I've loved the blood ravens ever since Dawn of War 1 and will need tonget around to painting one eventually! And im glad you're finding my videos helpful! I've been trying to find a balance between saturated colors that pop on the tabletop and more grim dark attributes such as oil/enamel weathering and chipping, and its always great to know that people are appreciating that style!

Oh my gosh a Blood Raven video done this style would be so good, I'm still having problems getting that deeper dark red for their armor to look right, they keep looking like Blood Angels instead. I hope you keep up the good work, your videos are already some of my favorites for painting references!
