When we moved to Atlanta I had no clue what to do with the "strange" screen enclosed porch off the master bedroom. It saved my life when we were without power for 6 days one summer. It is now one of our favorite spaces. Southerners knew how to stay cool before A/C.

Its an old fashion "sleeping porch". I live in NC and when we moved into my great grandmas farm house there was a sleeping porch all the way across the back of the house. My parents enclosed it and made a small entrance, laundry room and 2 modern bathrooms. Ive always wondered how peaceful it would have been to sleep out there with the crickets going nuts and the frogs at the pond singing. 😁 Congrats on your sleeping porch.

I'm pretty sure he ruined the lampshades with the amount of spray paint he used and how closely he was spraying it lol... might explain the lack of an up close finished project shot

Historically people had beds on porches in the south in an attempt to get a cross breeze in our hot summers.

What is the name of the spray paint. I was raised in the south. During the summer we had a screen porch we would sleep on the porch at night but we did not had bed but some comfort chairs. I missed those days

I'm trying to paint a burlap (non-smooth) lampshade with yellow rustolem semigloss and it looks great until we turn the lamp on. It shows the un-eveness of the paint. I put 2 healthy coats - any suggestions?
@GpD794 жыл бұрын
You may need to do more than 2 coats. He also shows great technique in that he sprays in different directions. One coat, go up and down, wait to dry, then do one coat side to side. Wait to dry, and repeat. You may have to do it many times, especially with something like burlap. You could always dye it the color you want with fabric dye. So long as the fabric isn't already on the shade! Good luck!

I have been mulling about how to recover/renew/redo my burlap covered shades--I am thinking that dye might be a better option than paint. Some of these shade look ghastly when the light is turned on, ha ha ha.
@donnafortune34612 жыл бұрын
Question. Instead of doing all the prep for the top of the shade, why not just do half then turn it upside down and do it again. Seems easier and quicker than trying to figure out how to put that paper on the top.

I tried this with black and a more slanted shade, it came out kind of rough, like we painted dust. We did clean it well first, any suggestions? Should we try to sand it down?

Tracy I just did a couple of mine and the same kind of happen but mine are made of fabric. Maybe that's the reason why .

I saw where someone painted the inside with gold leaf paint andbit was really nice. But after buying supplies, I think it would be easier to buy a new shade. Amazon has some really nice ones.
@haydeeparra22025 жыл бұрын
You can sand it with a 220 grit sandpaper. It will remove the stiffness.

After inkstamping on a light fabric lamp shade, is it necessary to clear varnish the lampshade. Please identify a product that one would use. How many coats?
