Nice, but how is that in any way "like an old master"?

I get what you mean, it is more like modern art.

Exactly! You are totally right. It was probably a click bait title…

I come to watch how to paint like an old master and see the end result looks like student work. Lady needs to put in her full 10k hours to studying.
@josephcowan67797 жыл бұрын
It was actually decent and I don't think she had finished. The guy next to hers was looking good though. i suppose it doesn't change the validity of her technique

Melon Dick this is just an example of how they would’ve painted and it’s pretty decent, she just hasn’t been putting in a lot of detail or blended much in.
@asahki.546 жыл бұрын
Melon Dick we all need 10k hours of practice, especially me. Please politely point me in the direction of your channel so that I may truly learn how to paint like a master... Assuming you have over 10k hours of training at least. I can't be bothered to learn from anyone with less experience.

The person on the right had a better painting with better likeness than the person talking and philosophising how likeness is not important.
@atticuslane6524 жыл бұрын
The lady is taking more time because she's pausing and explaining to the watchers without the need of focusing on the likeness. Her painting is to demonstrate techniques in simple form. The man on the other hand is focused on creating a painting of likeness, he's not focused on engaging with a crowd. His art is used to showcase the techniques that the crowd has learned

Please do not follow the silly American habit of referring to tones as 'values'; it grates on the ear. Yes, I am aware that it is abbreviation of 'tonal values' but to use the word in isolation is plain silly. The difference in lightness or darkness of a colour is its tone. It always has been and it always will be. I have stopped watching American art videos because of their obsession with calling tones 'values'.
@harshadk45954 жыл бұрын
I see your point. Just for clarity of these terms : A colour + white = Tint, colour + black = shade and colour + grey = tone. Black + white is a grey. Mixing complementary colours to get grayed tones is also a concept - especially while painting skin tones. Thanks.

@@lushbear04_old I think it literally means "dead head" in german, refering to a human skull...and of course the dude is drawing a skull, that was the main theme of their art class at that time, using it as a reference for a still life.
