What I noticed making all these videos is that all artists have something special, what I love to share. And it's a fun challenge for me that sometimes works well. Happy painting, Albert

Hi. Thanks for the great videos. Very inspiring! Can you explain about the acrylic gloss medium you use? I tend to use water to thin my paint. The mdium you use looks very runny?
@ImperfectPaintings4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ivor, thanks. I work on paper and can't use water, it would ruin my paper. The acrylic medium you can buy anywhere. Normally it is a little thicker, but I diluted it (1+3) and works also. It's cheaper, I'm Dutch 😁 Bye, Albert

I used to paint - it was my first love. Then I stopped, yet remained interested. I genuinely struggle to understand the acclaim achieved by David Hockney. My friend told me I was insufficiently intelligent to appreciate Hockney’s work. Oh well.

There is no reason to paint like Hockney, unless you are just copying a work to see if you get something that you can identify with.It's a good exercise but again, no reason to base your work on his style.

Hi Gary, thanks for sharing your opinion. Do you paint as well? Have you painted like Hockney like I did? What did you find out in the process? I show how I approached it and how difficult it was for me. I would ove to hear from you. Have a happy and healthy day Albert
@garyroberts38594 жыл бұрын
Imperfect Paintings yes I do paint,I studied illustration and printmaking at RMIT Melbourne in the 1960’s and have painted and taught for the next 55 years. I’ve become very fond of Hockney’s work in the last several years though I was familiar with it for decades and I have tried some drawings and paintings from his “Tunnel” . I stand by what I said about you effort , it didn’t do you or Hockney justice, sorry.
@garyroberts38594 жыл бұрын
Imperfect Paintings you needed more “marks” Hockney is a master of marks and of colour, your colours were so dull in comparison
@ImperfectPaintings4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, thanks for your longer reply. I completely agree with your ideas. I'm not a great painter, I try things out and sometimes it doesn't work out. My channel name is imperfect paintings and unfortunately sometimes they are. But I don't mind, I show also what doesn't work out. I document my traveling through the art world. Thanks again for coming back to me. Have a nice day, Albert
@elsagrace38934 жыл бұрын
@@garyroberts3859 I don’t think you understand what’s going on on this channel. This isn’t about making a masterpiece or even a good piece of art . It’s about making an attempt at seeing how the artist sees, trying and learning. You are critiquing something that isn’t even the intent, goal or result of the video. You are really funny and stuck in your narrow view point in my opinion. Also you didn’t explain how it went or what you learned from the paintings and drawings that you tried in Hockney’s style. I see this as an unwillingness to be vulnerable because of fear or maybe you just forgot and would like to share your experience and lessons with us now. I am interested.

It was a very stupid title and an unnecessary workshop, and it was ridiculous and something like making yourself funny. Let's assume that these brush strokes have nothing to do with Hockney and you can imitate it perfectly. How will you feel like it? Perhaps the 68 generation experienced the effects of World War II or a little more. If there was more of an analysis video, I would understand the post-hockney after matisse and van gohg, but it did not appeal to anyone other than popular culture lovers, otherwise I am sure it would be ridiculous, it may be popular culture, but fortunately there are people who read art history and who are not caught in the curious train. Thank you for the unnecessary video, thank you for printing this article from the translation. Hi hockneys.
@ImperfectPaintings3 жыл бұрын
Hi MisterJoker, you got me puzzled. I read your comment again and I am still puzzled by it. I sense something like modern art is not art in it. Also that you don't like the video. But why would you whatch this video if you don't like Hockney? Why such a long comment? I'm still puzzled. Does 'Have a nice day anyway' help perhaps? Albert

How can you learn to paint like someone who can barely draw or paint himself. What are you going to do, copy the way he paints tree branches so that yours don't look like branches either. Has the man even looked at a tree in his life, I dunno, I would guess not.
@ImperfectPaintings4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jack, interesting thoughts. And you give the answer also. It is all about looking at things and about painting. Do it more often and you will get better, or develop a personal style you like. When you enjoy painting who cares how other people judge? Have a happy day, Albert

@ImperfectPaintings4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jack, thanks for your reaction.. I don't have to like all art. I just look at it, see something and try if I can make a painting in that style. I just like to paint at my skill level and teach people at beginners level. It helps a lot of people how look at art and how to improve their painting skills. It's about enjoying your hobby and making art approachable. In Hockney I like his bold use of color, silly perspective, weird trees. And it's fun to try it and finding out it's quite difficult to mix his colors from the colors you have at hand. But you can only experience this when you actually try painting it yourself. It got me to the the point that I can learn from everybody and love to look at all sorts of art. Have a happy day, was nice talking to you, Albert
