To me, this is what watercolor is for: loosening up and experimenting! When I started painting with watercolors one year ago, I wanted to paint loosely and freely. I not only liked this style of painting, but I also wanted to change my mindset of trying to control everything in life. One year later, I realized that I have been doing the opposite by relying too much on reference photos, painting mostly wet on dry, planning every other step of a painting, and so on. Lately, I have decided to let go of my fear of losing control and enjoy. Only after I watched this video, did I feel confident enough to loosen up and paint something. Thank you so much for the great tips and encouragement!

Beautiful Karen. One of the few people where one can really learn something. Can you say why you use hot pressed paper? Particularly when using a lot of water and paint? I have never used it. Thanks.
@KarenRiceArt3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question Catherine, so pleased you are learning something from the tutorials! I use hot pressed mostly because the card does not mark the paper as much, it glides. When I use the card on rough paper it marks because of the tooth of the paper and it is also difficult to use the spraying technique because the paint does not flow as well. I will make sure next time I explain this a little better. Hope this was helpful! :)

How would you use the plastic card swiping technique without using paint fresh out of the tube? I'm thinking of a very butter-like texture mixed from my palette pans - what is your experience please? Thank you.
@Merzui-kg8ds Жыл бұрын
Love semi abstract, and love your color selections. I am concerned that less expensive paint will not behave as beautifully as yours. You use a lot of paint. If I used your techniques, I could only afford to do one painting a month.

Do you use hot press so the watercolor travels better?

What car does Travell better on hot pressed. It’s a good choice for this style of technique. But you could also use cold pressed.
