Assalaamu Alaikum Samir. I just discovered your channel today and am so grateful. I'm trying to learn to paint. Could you tell me what the underpainting was? I don't have oil paints. I have a gouache set. What could I use to make an underpainting that goes with gouache paints? Thanks in advance.

Alaikumu Salaam, i use any earthy color to tone the canvas. I did't use gouache ever, so I am not sure I can help you. Best painter you can find on yt using gouache is @JamesGurney. Hope you can find everything you need on his channel.

Thank you glad you like it. It is just some earthy tone mixed with some linseed oil to tone the canvas.

1:50 That's almost black you put on there. Nature has no black. It's hard to recover from or paint around. Get a bigger briush at the start, #5 to #7. If I did what you are doing here, I would have to forget things I have learned and found rewarding in the last 40 years.

Don't use puré white in your paint. Put anything of color.
