Screwfix does bare plaster paint, not runny like water but covers great, and if the clients want a flat Matt finish on the ceiling for example, you could just apply 3 coats of that

I think I might have screwed mine up :D. I was using Leyland Contact Matt and I put about 4.5 liters of paint into the bucket with about half a litre of water, but then put a little bit more paint in (possibly about another litre). When applying it, it felt a little bit thick tbh. Through the instructions say '1 part water to 9 parts paint'. Do you think that this should be ok or do you think I will have any problems down the line? After applying the first coat, should I use a watered down second coat or should I just apply the second coat neat? Grateful for any help guys! Many thanks!
@DavideAnastasia Жыл бұрын
Leyland Contract Matt has ruined my house: it left a chalky powdery finish on the wall and any paint you try to put on top, it just doesn't stick properly and can be easily pull out of the wall with the lightest of the masking tape (even the pink one). I wrote to Layland and they told me their product is not meant to be used for mist coat ... I wonder what it is for then!

Hi mate, would you recommend using cheaper matt emulsion for mist and primary coat (like Leyland) before finishing with a more expensive paint like Dulux?
@SeanHagyard-ze5ym Жыл бұрын
For the mist and primary coat,l used Dulux Supermatt. It gives great coverage and it's ideal for new plaster.
@DavideAnastasia Жыл бұрын
Using contract matt is old school and not recommended anymore by any paint maker. I have learn this lesson the hard way.
@Pikey722 жыл бұрын
Bit of a longshot but I have just had my walls freshly plastered and have waited a few weeks so they are dry. Was recommended by the plasterer to get the Jonmat Premium Contract Matt - Brilliant White paint. He said two coats of that and it would come up good. Didn't watch your video but the plasterer did say wouldn't need to mist coat with this stuff. Put the first coat on which was fine (or maybe not) and then the second coat yesterday. Was finding that when it dried it had quite alot of roller marks visible giving not a very uniform and consistent finish. Wasn't happy so went over with another coat today, taking more care to get a wet edge and not to dry roll. Pretty much the same result. Is my issue not mist coating the wall originally or is it down to maybe poor technique when rolling. I have read since that contract paints are mainly for the base coats and then would apply an emulsion to finish. Is it obvious what I am doing wrong?
@paw71102 жыл бұрын
Maybe your using a cheap roller, by a better roller head

just reading about painting a newly wet plastered wall, they are using lime in the plaster when doing the wall, i read that you need to use some acid to neutralise the lime before painting else the paint wont stick, what can you tell me about this??
@DavideAnastasia Жыл бұрын
It's gypsum plaster, no lime (unfortunately)

Any Thoughts on Spraying ??
@ryanseeley3 жыл бұрын
I've never done it but I hear its much quicker. That said I do know if you get a team of professionals to spray it for you and later you need to touch it up it's very difficult to get the patch to be unnoticeable. It's does seem to be the ways it's done now

Aren't you meant to only roll in 1 direction and due to paint dripping always paint up and down, not side to side? It seems you were doing donuts on the ceiling with the roller lol.
