The white gouache was a bridge too far for me in a dark forest. But love your technique of starting light and hazy, gradually layering the drawing over that. Really useful. Thanks.

I'll bet. I plan on having a go at it. I also forgot to mention that it reminds me of some of the stories by Piers Anthony.

I never heard of him but it must be magical then 🙂
@Elliria_home Жыл бұрын
It's gloriously magical. The next time you're at the library or a bookstore, grab a copy of "A Spell for Chameleon" as the first of many books in Piers Anthony's "Xanth" series. It's set in a world where magic exists and everyone is born with a magical talent, and it takes you on a romp filled with puns. If you enjoy it, there are nearly 50 books in the series so far.

It's taken me back to some magical land. What a snarl of a tree! A good place for the characters to stop by, perhaps take refuge from some bogey man and dig in to fight some evil force. The feel is although it looks secluded and deserted you may run into one of those any moment now... Only a talented artist can take a clean sheet and bring out magic. Well done. There's a special air about this channel. Never heard of the glazing technique. I'll try to find time on the weekend and catch up. Happy painting everyone!

I really loved your painting. This painting did remind me of a trip I took with my father (who is now deceased) some years ago to a dark forest in Tasmania in Australia. A lot of the trees being old growth were covered in this moss. I always wondered how someone would paint it. You are a brilliant artist. I enjoyed watching something from nothing.

@@paintingandchocolate There is a lot of forest areas on the west coast of Tasmania and it is absolutely a very lovely part of the world. Lots of touristy things to do. Australia has some really lovely areas that you can visit that is outside the city limits. I'm sure you would love it.

Lol, I'm not the sharpest knife when it comes to technology but does your free month apply to Canada? Because when I click your link the page that opens says my only two options are paying a monthly fee or an annual one. This is part of the message: Today's Total CAD $24.00 A recurring monthly charge of CAD $24.00 (plus tax, where applicable) will be automatically applied to your payment method and start on December 31, 1969. Note: the actual amount charged may be lower in the first month based on promo codes or discounts applied. You may cancel at any time, effective at the end of the billing period, by going to your Memberships & Payments settings. Rates for subsequent billing periods may change. All amounts paid are non-refundable, subject to certain exceptions. By clicking 'Start Membership', you agree to our Terms of Service and authorize this recurring charge.@@paintingandchocolate

Oh this is strange and I'll ask Skillshare. Normally they will have you enter your payment info, without charging you however while clearly letting you know that a month from now you will get charged unless you decide and cancel. I will enquire.

I wonder if it's because I used to sub to skillshare? Near the end of the pandemic I was almost homeless. Everything I owned (including watercolours) went into storage. Until I found housing I didn't even have internet. But, I'm back and ready to paint again. Honestly, no worries if I don't qualify for this offer. I see you have a lot of videos right here on youtube that will keep me busy for awhile. Thanks so much for them. Sorry for this long comment. Thank you so much for this video. I just started water painting and thought it would be easier than acrylic. I was wrong. Water painting is difficult.
@paintingandchocolate Жыл бұрын
You're welcome. It's not easy until you get used to playing with water and paint. For beginners I recommend the hair painting video I presented at the very end because it's such a slow and gentle approach, or practicing backgrounds with galaxies, skies...then you will see it gets a lot easier 🙌

Do you let the painting dry between layers and soften edges as you go?
@paintingandchocolate Жыл бұрын
I soften edges as I go but i let layers dry between the base, glazing and then adding dark darks.

I imagine the paper type was very important here, what paper did you use?

Yes it helps, although it is even more important on watercolors with a background like sky, water. This is 100% cotton arches paper cold press.

How do you clean your water color white palet. Mine is already getting ruined.
@paintingandchocolate Жыл бұрын
Mine is metal so it's really easy to clean, I find plastic a lot harder however. Could this be why you are having this issue?
@tthomas184 Жыл бұрын
White plastic tends to stain. I just go with it, since white isn't the best color to mix on anyway.

Such lovely and informative video! Just a small note, the image that you used as reference appears to be made by AI and I don't know your position with AI but I kindly ask for you to make a small research about it! as a teacher I think all students should learn from live or other forms of art rather than a image made out of a scraped data base, still this video is really well put together! There's a small chance that you've used the image thinking it was an actual picture or that I might be confusing some elses work as AI but I still hope you can check about this topic. Have a great day!

@paintingandchocolate Жыл бұрын
Thank you! A good way to soften the effect of how the white would have also been to mix one of my colors to it.it will still be opaque and allow these small additions, just more subtle 🙂
