I love your painting and I may try a looser style. I just started painting with oils and decided to paint one large rose. My colors while painting looked vibrant but once dry were extremely muted.

Hi Jane, I used burnt Sienna, yellow ochre, ultramarine blue for background. Cadmium yellow, titanium white and primary magenta (Maimeri Puro) for flowers, plus reflections from background colours. Full tutorial available from my website. check the video description for more info! cheers

Is it water oils? You block the first part in with very thin and runny paint
@LiviaDiasStudio7 жыл бұрын
Lis Engel I make a lean medium mixture of 5 part of mineral spirits to 1 of linseed stand oil for the washes. It can be done with the water mixable oils as well, by mixing water with it.

But then I have one question more, when you paint the petals with your wonderfull free moving brushstrokes, do you then use the oilpaint without medium?
@LiviaDiasStudio7 жыл бұрын
Lis Engel I work from thin to thick and wet into wet on that painting. Every time I create a new layer I decrease the amount of medium. So the last and thick layer I don't use any medium, just paint. So, if I have three layer of paint on an area, first is like a wash, second I use just a bit of fluid mixed with the paint, and on third layer no medium

Hello, I'm really keen to follow along with you, but Ive never done oils in my life. I dont even own any. Im a watercolourist, and have recently bought acrylics because Ive seen them used to look like watercolours (by adding water or medium) as well as oils (by painting them thickly). May I ask, could I follow along using acrylics or will I get a totally different result?
@LiviaDiasStudio7 жыл бұрын
Hi Safi, you can use acrylics, no problem. you can work similar to watercolour if you want it to look like it. Or you can work with acrylics thickly to mimic oils. If you mix bigger piles of paint and paint fast, there is no issue with acrylics. Have a go and let me know how it went! Best wishes!
