I liked the video alot because it shows a bit of a different approach on painting the skin, then what most videos on youtube suggest. Working from bright colors down to the darker ones, all in a bit of a glaze style sounds amazing and the result looks very good. I will try that one out on my next models.

Layer, layer, layer, layer, layer, layer, wash, wash, wash, layer, highlight, highlight, highlight, then highlight the highlighted highlights...and that's the first colour done, time to move onto the next darker paint... Sam has so much patience and skill! I need to watch this again another 4 or 5 times (already watched it a few times, but I just didn't pick up on how many layers and thin glazes he did), then I might give Alarielle a go! :D

The more i watch your video's the more i think your under appreciated you have 24k subs. yet the quality of content is superb. Keep the good stuff coming ! maybe some day you grow to become big enough to get sponsorship or even making this a fulltime job! As tabletop grows your channel will grow along with it sooner or later. I do find that for tabletop there just isn't as much content out there compared to a lot of other hobbies. I think its a shame. the community isn't even that small. there just sin't alot of good content out there.

Great video, i like the painter, can't remember from where i know him but his blog and some of his work are very familiar to me, great talent. If you intend to do another one, i'd like to always have a line of sight on the palette to clearly see the proportions he's using (on this one it's often hidden by the mini or the painter himself), you can also add all the steps with music in the background so we really see all the work on the mini (the video would be much longer). Anyway, great job.

Hey there, greetings from Hungary! First of all, I want to congratulate to your channel -- it's simply fantastic, has its own style -- great feel and taste -- and it even has a nice amount of dark and sarcastic humor, which I especially love :) So thank you, and keep up the good work! I watched all the videos of your channel in a week (maybe even less?) -- well, mostly because I'm kinda new to wargaming. Anyway, you mentioned somewhere, that you've played Khador in Warmachine (I started to play WH/M as well -- mercenaries here) and I'm pretty interested why did you stop it, and what is your overall opinion of the game and the models? The other thing I noticed, is that if I'm not mistaken, you have a 3D printer in your workshop -- are you actively using it? If so, I bet you are creating tools or models or scenery with it -- why aren't you sharing your experiences? If not, why not? (I'm asking this, because I used to be a product and jewellery designer who was doing bunch of 3D modeling/printing, so I'm pretty excited to see how and what others are using these technologies for? Eg. the last few days I designed and printed "skeletons" of a model which then I can put my green stuff onto..) Anywho, thumbs up, mate! ;)
@tabletopminions
@tabletopminions 8 жыл бұрын
+Peter Varo Thanks so much, I'm glad you like it! I stopped playing Warmachine because I didn't like the rules as much as I thought I would, and there weren't many people playing it in my area. I *do* own a tiny 3D printer, but I recently completely de-calibrated it while trying to adjust it, and now I need to spend a bunch of time re-calibrating it so I can use it again, and I haven't had the time. I really like the idea of using it to make model sculpting armatures for sculpting, that's a great idea. Thanks for watching!

Ever get an answer on this Atom?
@HiveMind3006
@HiveMind3006 6 жыл бұрын
@Throne of Sin & Mithlinthar: Guys I have done a lot of research on this topic as I was getting about four weeks constant use from a high quality brush i.e. Winsor & Newton 7 series, Citadel Artificer, etc etc. Found out the following; Don't ever feed your brush after midnight! Okay silliness aside... 1, Keep your brush clean, wash it every few minutes even if you are still using the same colour. 2, Never allow paint to get more than 3/4's of the way up the bristles. If paint ever gets up to the metal part (called the ferrule) stop what you are doing and wash it out. 3, Use brush soap. This conditions the bristles restores the bristles natural oils and stops them from becoming brittle and snapping.Use after ever session. 4, Keep old brushes and use them for mixing your paints and transferring paint from pot to pallet. 5, Always use cheap brushes when you can, never use your good expensive brushes unless you require good flow and a good tip etc. So keep cruddy brushes for basecoating etc. 6, Metallics will destroy the delicate bristles on your High Quality brush very quickly, it is the harsh metal pigments working like sandpaper on the bristles. I keep cheapy cruddy synthetic brushes purely for metallics. Teach yourself good practice and routine and follow it. If you do all the above your brushes will last a lot longer. My brushes -the good ones anyway haven't been replaced since I began observing these rules. Almost a year now and they are still looking and performing like they did the day I started to use them. I hope this helps guys.

Just going to bring back an old video in hopes of an answer. Don't know how to contact you other than this. Is there any chance you and maybe even Sam could do a video on cleaning mold lines? Specifically on models that are one piece IE CMON stuff. I know it's pretty straight forward use something sharp and take the stuff off but some angles are brutal are their tips to tools that help? I just use an exact o knife and some places are just stupid hard to hit with a good enough angle to make a clean surface sometimes gouging out parts that you weren't even aiming for. a question, if i dont use Zenithal highlights, and dont paint with a sourced lighting on my models, what would that be called? @jas_bataille
@jas_bataille 7 жыл бұрын
You are then using zenithal light. Unless you are highlighting all the edges of your model without consideration where the light comes from, the light comes from the top. Always. So it is zenithal. I don't know what you mean by "natural lighting" - painting in a natural environment with the sunlight? In which case, the light still come from above you. It is zenithal. That's the "normal painting". Your brain will automatically put the light source from above if you haven't think otherwise... or you have multiple light sources. Or reflected light. Or on the side. Or... the great thing with minis painted under a lamp : you can move the lamp. If you want it perfectly zenith, right over the mini. But if you want, let's say, a source of light on the side... put the lamp on the side. You're not guessing anymore.You see where the highlights needs to get done. Also one of the thing that eeer'body seems to forget about are cast shadows... but I guess you don't need to care about this unless you're entering competitions. ;)

+entropusrvs We don't do that, because we believe it's just as important to show the wet palette and how Sam's mixing his colors. Seeing a macro close-up isn't really going to help as most of the real learning is in the palette and the things Sam's saying. Thanks for watching!

So i learned that my major mistake was to think that a base layer, a highlight layer and a wash was overkill in terms of layers and that i was going crazy. Apartently i did not nowhere near enough layers..

I suggest using the same video overlays that Flameon Miniatures is using. He keeps a textbox of the types of paints he used with their dilution and mixes

I was actually thinking about skin tones today. I'm not trolling or looking to be 'that guy', but I'm genuinely curious - why are humans, and elves for that matter, always Caucasian? I have only ever seen non-white skin tone on historicals set in specific periods/locales.

Love these but I don’t find them super useful as a guide because you don’t hold up the results as you go. Little more of that and it will be 🔥
