How to Paint Snow in a Pastel Painting: Winter Landscape Tutorial

Snow! It’s fun to paint winter landscapes but how can we paint snow that looks natural? How do we avoid polka dots of white? I’ve got some fun tips for painting believable snow and I share them in this demo. I will first paint some evergreen trees and then I will make it snow! I hope you enjoy the demo! SUPPLY LIST
1. Reclaimed Gator board with pumice/gesso mix support
2. A selection of Terry Ludwig and Diane Townsend pastels
3. White gouache
4. Toothbrush, small watercolor brush
5. White pastel and a sharp edged tool such as a banker’s clasp or palette knife

Thank you for another great tutorial! Your work is so energetic, and it's so helpful to see your process. I wonder if in a future video you might demonstrate painting using only the pastels one might find in a student's boxed set? It would be really cool to see what is achievable with the materials I currently have access to as a beginner. I've purchased a set of 36 Mungyo semi-hard pastels and 64 Ha Shi soft pastels, but I don't yet have 8 shades of snow tones! haha

Which iridescent pastels are these? I’ve tried a couple of brands but found them underwhelming- I could use some recommendations 💜

These are Diane Townsend soft form pearlescent pastels. I don't use them often. They are quite soft so best for small pops of bling!

How do you preserve soft pastel drawings and paintings? Does't the paint flake off?

They should be framed under glass but no fixative is needed. The pastel doesn't flake off!
