Paul I kiss your feet!! This is a transformational video for me, a new watercolor painter, now much frustrating struggle has been eliminated with these techniques. This sharpened wooden end of a brush is so simple and soo effective. It transforms my poor overworked trees and grasses. Will get myself a natural sponge and pretend I am in Japan in cherry blossom season. Holding a round brush flat and dragging over dry paper, what could be better! And finally the piece de resistance - how to make misty trees. This video has to be one of the very best I have ever watched for simple effective techniques that can be used over and over in so many different paintings. Thank you Marguerite

Only recently have I learned what caused the issue. I found your videos over the past 2 weeks and have learned so much that would have made my journey far more enjoyable and much easier......... Your techniques give wings to my work and I love them.I've tried some of them. The minimal number of brushes, colors and options are truly helpful, and provide for a meaningful, engaging and successful result. Thank you, so much. Of course I have purchased your book and can't wait for it to arrive. Last wednesday I learned that I have NPH Hydrocephalus and will require brain surgery at the end of this week. Thanks to your upbeat approach and teaching skills, I now that I will be able to paint again and I have something to look forward to when I get home............PS. First your marvelous work with skies, then this terrific treatment of trees! Again, it's excellent-as is your relaxed, articulate delivery. Sharpening the non-bristle end of the brush to do branches is pure genious and simplicity rolled into one. My only regret is the light-speed of the evergreen segment, where you also dropped any discussion of colors/washes. NOBODY would have grown bored with a real-time treatment of evergreens!

Hi Laurie, just wondering how you have got on with this as I appear to be having the same problem. I’ve doctored the end of a no.5 brush, tried using different thicknesses of paint, and just seem to score within the painted area (the tree trunk). Outside of the painted area I just seem to have a tiny feint trace of a twig! Paul makes it look so easy...
@laurieedelman43143 жыл бұрын
@@ritacurrie9842 Hi Rita, I didn't have too much luck with the sharpened end of my brush, but I've found other methods that work. I find that using the tip of a palette knife instead of the sharpened end of my brush is a little more successful. Mostly, though, I use a rigger brush or a very small round (like a #2). Happy painting!
@ritacurrie98423 жыл бұрын
@@laurieedelman4314 Thanks Laurie for your advice. I have made several attempts in doctoring a different brush and the affects were considerably better. However, I shall have a go later with a palette knife. My thanks again, and regards.

This was a great tutorial for artists!! I am not a “flash” artist. I’ve taken several classes online and in person, free and Paid. I always gather something from each class however, the subject painting is always completed in each of those classes. And that’s just not how I paint. It’s nice to get some reinforcement about letting it sit for a day or two and coming back after looking at it. I prop my paintings up in my main room outside the studio and look at it 1000 times a day. Then finally I’ll come back and say… It’s done, it needs a little more darkness here, or I really messed this one up completely. Lol Thanks for the free advice! You’re classes are some of the best. 😊

Hello. Your art and education are unique. Thank you very much. I'm just learning. I enjoy watching your work so much that instead of practicing, I sit for hours and watch and admire your art show. Your tree trunks are very beautiful, natural and unique. I hope I can perform a little. Thankful

I ordered you book and can’t wait to receive it. I love your style as it simplifies things I’ve had trouble painting. I really love your paintings of the old farm houses, etc. as not too many of those beautiful buildings here in America. Thank you Paul for sharing these amazing tips and paintings.

Paul, I could hug you! Love your humor and the wonderful way, you teach how to paint those trees. I just sharpened the end of one of my favorite brush! Tomorrow, I'll start practicing painting those trees, which are one of favorite subjects. Thanks a million! Greetings from Augsburg ;))
