Can someone help me TT I followed the exact steps but I still am running into the same problem. I would have the gradient map (fire gradient) on the top, have the blank layer right underneath the gradient layer and have the black solid layer under everything (and this layer is on screen). But I dont know why the gradient causes like a slight pinkish hue to the photo. When i draw on the blank layer the gradient painting is fine, but the gradient map keeps making the whole picture pinkish for some reason :/ and my black layer turns into a light brown for some reason TT when i added in the black layer I dont know what im doing wrong TT

Since we're using a screen layer, won't the gradient map color also be affected by the screen effect, so making it lighter than we set it in the gradient?

Aaron, just met your channel and subscribed. This is a GREAT tutorial. I've always struggled doing this, I wasn't really understanding the whole black-layer-screen-mode dynamic. You explained everything in details with a 007-villain voice, what else can go wrong? Anyway, outstanding job, definitely trying this one on my next work.

@gabriellecordeiro87774 жыл бұрын
Do you think this is a valid method to add light to your finished pieces? or that is kinda "cheap" way?
@AaronGriffin4 жыл бұрын
You can definitely use it as a final step... especially in scenarios where the light is very distinctive. It works great for stylized pieces or more monochromatic pieces... That way you can be more playful with it and not worry about mixing other light sources too accurately. But yeah, it can be used any time in the process really.

How would i do this on procreate? Still new to digital art
@AaronGriffin4 жыл бұрын
I have not tried using this method in procreate but if I had to guess... I would say... create a screen layer and fill it with black like we did here and then using procreates colour dynamics... you may be able to create a gradient in the brush settings itself. I will have a play myself and see if I can get it to work :)
@Misssugar1644 жыл бұрын
Can the same effect be done in Procreate too?
@AaronGriffin4 жыл бұрын
I'm not suuure... Unless i am mistaken, procreate does not have adjustment layers like Photoshop does. You may be able to create a gradient in the brush settings itself and then paint directly using a pressure gradient. I'll have a look myself and see if I can get it to work! :)
@Misssugar1644 жыл бұрын
Aaron Griffin thanks for the reply! :) I’ve never worked with Photoshop so a lot of the jargon goes over my head so these vids are great to help me understand exactly what to do etc. I barely use any of the fancier procreate features but I want to, so I look forward to hearing if you find any similar method :)
@Emeny4 жыл бұрын
Thank u
@ninjanick57693 жыл бұрын
I didn't get most of it, perhaps I need to watch it multiple times. Especially, the the "safe zone " layer. I don't understand why you need to use a Clipping Mask over a black filled layer in Screen mode in order not to make the Gradient colours bleed over the layer beneath it if it's already entirely black . And also what happens to the rest of the rest of the skin, I assume you might have to change the Blending mode including the colours in the Gradient slider as the entire face cannot reflect a fire light source. But overall, brilliant technique, just wish I understood the concept behind it, lol
