I started making my own toy and assumed to get the smooth color I'd have to airbrush or spraypaint, but couldn't get a clean line with masking, so it's great to know you can do this with regular acrylics and brushes. Thanks!

would you recommend this process over airbrush painting? just for the "smooth" part. More things can be done with paintbrush imo, but I really do want to produce sumthn that looks like it's manufactured. Tia!

Yeah I actually do recommend airbrushing as much as you can. I airbrush my toys for things like glow in the dark or my metallic colorways. For me personally I use acrylic on the 1 of 1 colors but if I'm making 5 or 10 of the same color I just airbrush the base coats.

This is awesome :) wouldn't it be easier to mix some pink paint in with your resin though? Then you'd just have to paint the mouth and teeth.

Thanks yo!! yeah your right, Definitely would be easier. Although since sometimes my resin pieces come out of the mold with bumps, bubbles and cracks, I have to add filler and sand the pieces, so I just paint them for now. I really just need to invest in a pressure chamber lol.

Great content as always man, I just wanted to to comment on when you said you use 1,500 grit for sanding, have you tried with lower grits? I've found no appriciable difference between 1,500 vs 1,000 grit for W/D sandpaper on resin EXCEPT when working with clear resin where that polished look takes effect.

you're 100% correct, Definitely don't need to go to 1500 on resin and sculpted figures it's kind of overkill. When I made this video I was still kinda new to the sanding techniques. I don't think I've used 1500 ever again after this video 😂

Do you have to primer the toy before you paint it or could you just paint on the pure resin.

Great question. You should always primer the toy, without primer the paint won't adhere properly. It would scratch off easily and take more coats of paint.

Wishing you wouldn’t have drew the lineup on the fronts, was loving the 2 toned teeth. It was like 3D Forced, maybe just the sides of the teeth would still have the lineart effect. Video was 🔥🔥🔥keeps it up

Yes indeed! Prime your vinyl toys and let them sit for a couple of days, then go wild with the paint.
