How to paint your car at home Part 2 (Paint strip and metal work)

Im not sure how the idea of painting a car at home as upset so many people, but it has. Im just trying to save some money and get some color on the panels! In this second video in the series, we talk about paint removal and metal work. These are the first two steps in painting your car at home.

I am very happy you are doing these paint videos. I need to paint my hood on my 70 Mustang and I was thinking about doing it myself. I think your Marti report said that car came with sport mirrors because it was a grabber special.

You should absolutely paint it yourself! As for the doors, you’re right! Except I think these doors have been reskinned and I was thinking the new skins were drilled for regular mirrors initially. I’m not sure though. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!

How long do you recommend letting sit in bare metal before primer?

Not long at all if you can help it. My shop has ac/heat so I’m. It terrible worries about it but if you take it down to metal you should get some dtm or sealer on it pretty quickly.

Do you put epoxy primer on or etch prime for the bare metal?

Not on this one. Just a urethan DTM (direct to metal) primer
