I needed to factory reset the thermostat as well (hold back and menu buttons for 10+ seconds) after taking the batteries out, but useful guide, thank you!

I’ve been trying to connect the thermostat in remote heating mode for hours with no luck. The instructions on hive website is awful

What helped me was doing a factory reset of the thermostat then doing the pairing. To do this, turn off boiler/receiver switch, wait 5 seconds, turn on again then hold receiver button for 10 seconds until light flashes amber. Then removed battery from thermostat and put back in. When it reaches 'reconnecting' display hold down the down arrow and middle button for 10 seconds to factory reset. It will then reboot and say 'searching'. Leave it near the receiver for a minute or so and it'll pair. Hope this helps someone as little help out there online!

Thanks.. i followed ur steps and it worked.. i saw many videos but to no avail… followed only the last step.. pressed the bottom and middle button on the mini thermostat for 10 second and it started pairing

Thanks. It's a lottery as to whether it connects or not. I keep turning devices on off, long pressing buttons for flashing led, taking batteries out. Repeating process. Eventually by sheer luck often they connect, frustrating though.

Totally agree. I’ve been using a Hive setup in my house for years now and it’s never worked first time. Now my sister has moved into a new build and we’re having the same issues with her Hive. The instructions are awful and the Hive by design is clunky. Once it’s setup properly it’s great but getting it working in the first place is sheer pot luck.
