This is 5 years later and to me is still very relevant. I've watched a gazillion tutorials (no joke) on how to apply, but none on how to properly pair them up, which is a big issue for me. This is so helpful and valuable if I could give a million thumbs up, I would. Thank you, Marlena!!!!

Hey, I have that exact coloring. I really like the Too Faced Bronzer in Milk Chocolate. You want to go for something that's not really bronzy, b/c any orange tones look funky with yellow undertones. For a shimmer bronzer, I like Lorac's Tantalizer b/c it has a bit of a reddish/copper undertone which can balance the yellow in my skin.
@joannecarroll55049 жыл бұрын
Thank you for using the word "monochromatic" in the correct context. It annoys me when illiterate people use the word "monochrome" to refer to a black & white combination - "mono" = one, "chrome" = colour. Black & white aren't even colours, never mind the fact that there's 2 of them in a combo.
@BanchoHime7 жыл бұрын
Joanne Carroll you don't have to refer to people as illiterate to make yourself seem intelligent
@joannecarroll55047 жыл бұрын
I never claimed to be more intelligent than anyone - just capable of reading. Guess you just proved my point.
@BanchoHime7 жыл бұрын
lol so let me ask, why did you choose to use the term when it really didn't add to the information in the least? Also, if you are going to attempt to feign ignorance about what you were trying to infer, do you know the meaning of the term illiterate? I only posted because I get tired of reading other people putting people down. You're obviously a smart person and you can portray that without being nasty.

This was really great Marlena! I love your eyeshadows so much and definitely want to buy more. I just went travelling and the only eyeshadows I brang with me were your ones in a Z-pallete! I love them and can't wait for you to make more.
@shakaanita11 жыл бұрын
I disagree with you. You can't put any colors together! When it comes to polychromatic looks one must look at a color wheel. Colors that are opposite will accentuate each other (like green-red / blue-orange) but will make it impossible to pair on the lids. You cannot blend eyeshadows that are oposite together. Try it and you'll see that it will create an ungly brown color. You can create a cut crease or use them on upper or lower lids but never without differentiating them. To mix colors the best way is to look at the color wheel and look up the colors your main color comes from. For a harmonious look for ex with a blue- green ( turquoise) you have to use green- yellow combo or a blue purple combo. This way blending will be a piece of cake. Also you can use neutrals to help blend towards your brow bone when using strong colors. Any color that has no similarity with skin (green and blue especially), will need a color that has a similar pigment as the skin to blend out.
@MotionPictureMuse10 жыл бұрын
Open up just about any beauty or fashion magazine to see examples of well-paired and well-executed eye looks using complimentary or split complimentary colors. Such pairings can be tricky, but they do work and can be used to create the boldest, most artful looks.
@shakaanita10 жыл бұрын
I am not saying you can't use them at all. I am saying you have to use other colors between or divide them clearly to have that impact.

As much as these "rules" are great guidelines for creating professional looks for people who prefer wearable makeup, and as much as I love Marlena's videos, I have to say something. These should be taken as guidelines, because that's what they are. For wearable looks, these are all really great ways to have a good looking clean cut professional appearance. It is important to remember that if you want to pair crazy colors together, it's ok. A lot of glitter is ok. That's the beauty of it all.
@DolphinGirl82611 жыл бұрын
I don't like how she says you can't have all matte or all shimmer there are tones of ways all matte eyeshadow looks can be amazing and same thing with all shimmery just the way this girl has so many "rules" of makeup pisses me off makeup is a free art you can do whatever you want.
