Super vid - wondering how frequent the 703 buses are which seems key... Thanks, really enjoy your videos :)

@harshilpatel684 2 ай бұрын
Checked just this, they are every 30 mins which isn't the best frequency if you just miss one but think there are 1-2 other local buses too, the number 5 and 81, and as he said you can get an uber for a £10-15 if you're running late!
@mygreygapyear
@mygreygapyear 2 ай бұрын
@trevshops They used to be every 20 minutes but the frequency has reduced to two per hour during the day. I didn't know about this reduction until @harshilpatel684 pointed it out, so thank you to both of you. I didn't mind waiting 15 to 19 minutes if I'd just missed one, but I think if it's going to be up to 29 minutes then I'm going to check the schedule and try to time my arrival in the future. The saving really can stack up (especially for me with an old Astra) over longer breaks, currently I'm away for 15 nights and my parking was £98 so if I did need to use an Uber it would still make financial sense. Thanks Phil

@@harshilpatel684 trouble with 81 is it doesn’t go into the airport, but just down the Bath Road. You have to get off and onto another London bus, but tap same card and within an hour I think it is it would be free.

Yeah exploring and finding convenient, safe and cheap travel options are all part of my trip experience. I always try and use public transport. I now never hire a car abroad. I’m retired now and time is nowhere near as important than having a risk free experience that is cheap safe and often more fun.

We are clearly of one mind on this, public transport is always interesting, although I did the airport run in Bangkok in a taxi both ways, about £15 each way. The train would have been significantly cheaper, but I just crumbled when a local driver offered me a ride for 600 Baht. Thanks for your comment, Phil

Here's my tip for Bristol airport, look for the Airport express bus and look at the route, Plenty of free to park streets along the route. Mind you, not for folk with a ton of luggage or a family of five!

Thanks for your comment, using JustPark can often save even bigger sums if you're booking a bit last minute, but squeezing as much as I can out of every pound earned is just a mentality that I have. I always take pens from hotels and I'll clean out the tea and coffee every day to make sure it gets refilled, and the mini-bar if it's included in the price. And that's just the start of it 😂 Thanks Phil

I'm more surprised by the non ULEZ Astra? Is it simply just a diesel from the early 2010s that still serves you well so no reason to change it?
@mygreygapyear
@mygreygapyear 2 ай бұрын
@@harshilpatel684 It is an old diesel Astra. I would replace it but it is probably going to the scrap yard when I don't need it, and I just can't throw away things that still work. My telly is an old Phillips 32" flat screen (720p definition) that I bought the year Leona Lewis won X-Factor 😂😂😂

I've used Justpark a couple of times, back before ulez and the free local busses, some spots in Harlington. I'm not fussed about ulez as my car is compliant. But last time I parked at Heathrow, i used Maple Parking, it's outside ulez but you leave your keys - the cars stay onsite but they shuffle them around. I left a smart tag in my car to see if it left the site.

Thanks for your comment and support, I'd happily rock up at an unofficial long stay car park and hand my keys over, it's the perfect stranger at the airport taking my car to who knows where. We clearly think in the same way, I've parked on an Asda near the Hays and Harlington stop on the Elizabeth line and I leave a tag in my car too 😀 Thanks Phil

Question is avios really worth it? I've started collecting them this year. After watching people like nonstop Dan. For example I have to get to 90,000 avois + tax for a return flight to Kuala Lumpur. With very limited dates. However if I go on skyscanner I can fly to KLA on dates I want at a lower price with another airline. 90,000 avois cost an eye watering £1.599 on the BA website.
@mygreygapyear
@mygreygapyear Ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment and question. I think it's fair to say there are some things that Avios are good for and some things that Avios are not so good for and it sounds like you're hoping to use your Avios for long haul economy which Avios are notoriously bad for. Very often European economy offers excellent value against the cash fare, especially if you need to check a bag. Then with long haul premium cabins, like business class, you will often get a distinct discount using Avios. And a final great use for them is one way fares, traditional full service airlines, like BA, Qantas, Qatar and so on, often sell one way fares for the same price as round trips, but if you need a one way fare then using points can be a lifesaver. And finally, I'd say paying for points that cost you over 1p per point is a bad idea. I personally wouldn't pay over 1p for a point, but I can pay for them using the new Avios boost offer or you can get them via a subscription, buying 200,000 on the annual plan will deliver you 200,000 points over the year at about 1p per point. And that 1p per point value is one I use to judge value when I spend Avios too, usually against a cash fare. If I don't make a saving valuing my Avios at 1p each then I use cash. I hope this helps, all the best for your travels, I hope you get to Kuala Lumpur and have a fantastic trip, Phil

Or indeed just find a street suitable to park on. I know this isn’t for everyone and it’s easier if prepared to go within the ULEZ so have access to all the London bus routes but it’s still a good extremely cheap (under £4 per person) option.

Thanks for your comment, I'm not sure I have the nerve to pull into a random street and get my case out the boot, leaving it there for two weeks. I mean damage isn't an issue, I'd probably make a profit if my car was written off... 😃
