Hello Alex, your videos are good. is getting more and more exciting. With you it looks so easy that you convert it to a chest ascender and ID and vice versa. Really exhausting for me, do you have any tips? The best way to position the Petzl ASCENSION is to pull it up with both hands, that's how I do it? Really heavy with one hand.

Glad you like them! I would have to see you changeover to judge where the improvement may lie. I have just released a new video on the Changeover subject. Besides addressing an issue from the original one, I spent some time on giving some tips on making getting back into the Croll easier. Let me know if this helps 👍🏻

Thanks😃. Good thing is that there is not one right way. There are countless methods. Some may work for you, some for me. That’s why I like to give multiple option in training if the skill level allows it

I am struggling passing knot while ascending, I cannot seem to keep the rope close enough to chest long enough to lock my chest ascender. What could I do, or what am I not doing correctly? Is there anyway I can manipulate the footloop so when I step up I am closer to the rope?
@Kehua800
@Kehua800 Ай бұрын
1 - just relax, 2 make sure before you start that your foot lop is at a good height for your foot as you step into it - practice this near the ground just practice standing in the foot lop a lot until it's feeling comfortable, 3 make sure that your descender is high up on the rope just slightly under your chest croll. Thats it really

Question, so when you pass the knots only using 1 backup on the backup line, you clip the butterfly knot directly to your point A on the harness with a karabiner as this is the fall arrest point. When you do the second pass on the back up line using an overhand knot in the buttfly knot bite to create a clip in point above the damage section, you clip in the cows tail which is attached to the main front ring on the harness where your decender is cliped on, not the fall arrest ring point A. Is this a mistake or is it ok, thought the back up should allways be on fall arrest point A?

That is ok. And may also vary a little per region or industry philosophy. According to IRATA we can aid climb with our cowstails as backup. We are essentially doing the same thing here. The reason is that we never climb above FF1 and keep the potential energy as low as possible. Everything with a shockabsorber needs to be connected to an A-point though. Does that make sense ?
@TheKlaus30
@TheKlaus30 10 ай бұрын
Ah I see so because you are in FF1 or FF0 the fall distance is minimal so a absorber isn't needed, so no need to attach to the "A" point on the harness 👍the front ring is ok. but if you end up in FF2 waste down for some reason you would need to use an absorber on the "A" point on the harness with your backup because of the fall distance and need the absorber to disappear the forces.

The cowstails are made from dynamic rope and there is some absorption properties. The reason I clip directly to the A point is to minimise fall distance. I would consider it a better practice. Even with a fall arrest device (like the asap) we never want to be in a FF2 situation. @@TheKlaus30 And in all honesty, we use the fall factor in the wrong way.. FF=fall distance/rope length. So when I am in 10 meters of rope and drop 40 cm in a "ff2" asap it is still only FF0,04. And for En 1891 a FF0,3 is acceptable. so having an asap low is actually not as bad as it is made out to be..... Right, with that oil on the fire it is always better to keep that asap abouve the shoulder and minimise our fall distance..

Why don't you use your upper ascender to create a second point of attachment to place the Asap under the knot?
@TheRopeAccessChannel
@TheRopeAccessChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Good point. As I have said before there are different methods for everything. For one, an ascender can never be a backup, so there are more considerations then just placing an ascender above the knot. In this video I have the trainees gradually evolve and use new skills progressively. Learning to tie a Butterfly is one of those skills. Clipping into a knot is safer then using an ascender where you want to prevent a shockload at all times. So for more experience technicians yes, very possible. In training for fresh up and coming L1's not. Hope that clears it up

You can use 2 descenders by brining 1 knot higher up so long as the 2 knots are not similar in height, then you just descend cross over bla bla
