Hello,hope you're well. Sorry for bothering you again. If I were to bring changes to my home, I would make sure that I (had/ would have/have) a bigger kitchen and a garden. Most of the students that I have had (have been/ was/are) intelligent. Most of the friends that I have had ( had/ have/have had) this car. Which one should I use? Looking forward for your response.

Hi Akshat, the first one is an interesting construction. I had to think quite a lot about this! This is a form of the second conditional followed by a very specific structure. If I were to bring changes to my home (hypothetical situation in the 2nd conditional), I would make sure (2nd conditional main clause - would + present simple) I had a bigger kitchen and a garden (this is the complicated part. When ‘make sure’ is used to discuss a hypothetical situation, it is always followed by the past simple. In this way, it’s similar to ‘wish’. ‘I wish I had a bigger kitchen.’ ‘I would make sure I had a bigger kitchen.’). In the two following cases, the present perfect should be used because you are talking about unfinished time. ‘Most of the students that I have had (during my life… unfinished time) have been intelligent (still referring to unfinished time, so use the present perfect. ‘Most of the friends that I have had (present perfect to describe unfinished time…during my life), have had this car (we are still talking about unfinished time, so use the present perfect).’

I want to tell you that nowadays I am using an easy way to remember new words. I learn some words according to the alphabetical order and record myself saying those words. I listen to them like a song or a podcast as often as I can. It is much easier and more interesting to learn new words and phrases. You are a teacher, so I just wanted to say that to you. Thanks 😊

@@akshatmukundam974 that's an interesting way. Students often ask me how they can remember new vocabulary. Next time, I'll suggest they try this method :-)

is these questions are always the same ?
@EnglishWithEm Жыл бұрын
I believe the questions in part 1, phase 1 are the same - What's your name? Where do you live/come from? Do you work or are you a student? and then the relevant question related to either work or studies. However, I think it has changed for the PET for schools version. Now they ask: What's your name? How old are you? Where do you live? Do you live in a town, city, or region? Do you live with your family? The part 1, phase 2 questions are not always the same, but they are always on similar topics. It would be preferable to use English spelling in the video, for example 'travelling' (English), not 'traveling' (American).
