Having just completed and passed my motorcycle licence assessment on my G310GS, I thought I'd put together a short video, with one or two tips, which may (or may not) help you to pass your checkride and MLA.

I did my Ls yesterday and we had to pass all those things. Best practice all of it including U turns before check ride. Thanks for the tips. Good work with the vid. Done in a real life practical sense too.

I got my L's at Kilsyth the day before Easter. I kept forgetting to flick my blinker off on the ride, let alone buffer. I'm picking up a KTM 390 Adventure from the dealer on Friday. So, my first solo ride will be 50 kms from Epping, in heavy traffic, on tram tracks, and most likely wet roads that I'm unfamiliar with. It's a jot terrifying. Still, mustn't blub.

Thanks mate, going for my licence assessment next month and it was very easy to understand where you're coming from especially when I recognise the roads so well being a ballarat local myself, buffering and head checks is the biggest thing I've realised

Cheers, Good luck. There's a bit of wriggle room on the check ride in terms of making small mistakes, biggest tip would be to watch and listen carefully to everything the instructor says and does, as they will give you all the info and tips you'll need to pass the final assessment 👍

Yeah the lockdowns gave us an extension on the license time, so with the extra time i was staying on my learners, i'm going for my checkride in 2 days with Allstar motorcycle training, im alittle nervous because i had a surgery and took time off the bike (a month), i get one solid day of riding before the check ride so i plan to make the most of it. I think i'll focus on buffering away from parked cars and from oncoming traffic, correct lane positions, head checks. those 3 main points will help me keep a standard out there on the ride! thanks champ
@DR200Gold Жыл бұрын
Your welcome, if you haven't ridden for a while I'd also recommend trying to find an empty car park for some slow rides, slow tight turns, emergency braking ect just before you go in. Good luck 👍

thanks so much for this video, it was perfectly timed 😄 ive booked in my licence test for next week, and I'm probably more nervous about getting the route wrong or messing up because of it (which happened on my check ride). Do you have any advice for avoiding getting overwhelmed by trying to manage all the riding etiquette while riding unfamiliar roads? 😊 thanks again!!
@DR200Gold2 жыл бұрын
I was also on unfamiliar roads, and yep that made me nervous as well. I made a point of letting the instructor know I didn't know the roads before we started, and he said he'd use his blinkers early so I could see in the mirror. Just keep a check on the instructor in your mirror, if you make a wrong turn it's no big deal and they will give you a flash or beep to pull over and then correct the route. Doing an hour or two of riding in the area right before your test may help calm the nervs as well, Good luck 👍

Did you end up getting your licence?
@Ellisian2 жыл бұрын
@@pine207 I did! a few months into my Ps I got T-boned haha, but I'm on my second bike now and loving every second of it 😄I did make a wrong turn in my final on-road test, but as DR200gold said, they really don't mind so long as you don't break any road rules in the process of correcting :)

Thanks for the video mate! When you said the thing that you were pulled up on, was it because you didn’t brake, or because you didn’t slow down / initiate the brake lights when saw the car pulling out?
@sergeant_ozzy10372 жыл бұрын
Also any tips for slow riding? It’s one of the few things I messed up on first time round.
@DR200Gold2 жыл бұрын
I didn't "setup" (cover) the brakes when approaching the car in the intersection, so was not prepared to stop if the car kept coming out.

Looking at you going 50 in 40km/h zone while talking about buffering :D
@DR200Gold Жыл бұрын
lol, more and more 40 zones popping up, they can catch ya out fairly easy. My speedo is also out by 5kph so was actually only on 45 🤔 and being from Adelaide originally I'm use to a 9kph allowance lol they may have changed that by now though.

Hello nice video but I have a few questions 1)how much did you have to pay to do the two day training ? 2) if you fail do you have to pay the full amount again or less?
@DR200Gold2 жыл бұрын
The two day course was $500, I'm not sure how much you have to pay if you fail it.
@BadgerMcblasty2 жыл бұрын
I’ve got into the habit of always covering the front brakes, I even rev match when down shifting covering them, I hope I’m not pulled up on that.
@DR200Gold2 жыл бұрын
You will be if they see it, I was doing that on the learners course and was told several times not too. It's def not an instant fail but you could get a mark against you if they see it a number of times I think.
@BadgerMcblasty2 жыл бұрын
@@DR200Gold rev match? or always covering the brake? 🤔
@DR200Gold2 жыл бұрын
@@BadgerMcblasty Always covering the brakes, nothing wrong with rev matching 👍
@BadgerMcblasty2 жыл бұрын
@@DR200Gold sweet. Rev matching is practically second nature now, that’d be hard to snap out of, not constantly covering the brakes - I can deal with.

Silly question but, do you need to head check when changing position within your current lane?
@DR200Gold11 ай бұрын
I can't remember if that one was a "requirement" but I'd suggest you should be doing it automatically anyway, traffic can appear from "out of nowhere" all to easily

Is there much difference with the course of the check ride and the actual assessment?
@DR200Gold2 жыл бұрын
If by "course" you mean the route ? if so then yes they can be completely different. If you mean other differences....then I'd say the check ride felt more like a relaxed, fine tuning course, with tips for the final assessment/exam.

With buffering what do you do with parked cars and on coming cars at same time , do you avoid one more than other or just stay in middle between them
@DR200Gold Жыл бұрын
Buffer away from the oncoming cars as they are the more dangerous threat.
