I go a step further. I trim the outside edge to compensate for the thickness of the mesh, and feather the mud farther out to blend. That guarentees the patch to disappear. It's a bit more work, but worth the effort.

Honestly this is the way that most creative/labor industries are. The thing is that its not hurting them because one guy can only fix so many holes in so many walls in a relatively small area. But they pass down knowledge to people who dont know it and they may recive more knowledge from other who know more than them. Even in home renovations there is so much to learn that no one person could be the only laborer in one house so it never hurt to teach somone what you do

You have to prefill large gaps like that. It will crack badly eventually and the tape will not hide it.
@zachstevens62583 жыл бұрын
Cut a square in the drywall next time. It's easier to measure your filler piece so you don't have those big gaps along the side like you had. Then you don't have to sand out the bubble that forms when you float over with your mud.

I have seen a lot of people do a patch. Most of my seat just cut out a piece of drywall the same size has the holder going to cover with a little bit of paper extending passel and just spackle that in. No support behind that little piece of drywall just the paper that is part of the drywall extending past for spackle. Sand a little too much and you're going to go straight through, or somebody leans on that patch it's going to push straight through. Putting a little tiny piece of wood through the hole that's wider than the hole and put that screw on either side and then putting the patch in gives it support. Whether it's in a wall or ceiling. Smart.

If you used a hole saw for the patch and plug side they would match up better, use fibafuse for the tape because it pretty well dissolves allowing it to be much flatter, then a wet song when it's about 75% cured. No sanding required at all and one coat

Next time use your hot mud to fill the gaps before tape. Makes for a much stronger and cleaner patch . Also if you'll apply hot mud in between new horizontal drywall gaps it will help keep walls more rigid and not crack out overtime as the house settles.🤙

I would have allowed it to dry thorough then coated it with topping mud allow to dry again. Then sand and melt in the edges with a wet sponge...then spray texture and knock it down. Hot mud will flash through paint some if it doesn't get topping over it.
