Update guys: someone pointed out an important note regarding subsidized loans. Unfortunately the US Dept of Education no longer allows subsidized loans for graduate programs so any loans you get for law school will be unsubsidized. I left a link in my description box to a nerd wallet article that is very helpful on this topic! Check it out!

I wish that I saw this back in 2015 when I was applying to law school!!! Thank you for helping the up-and-coming lawyers not make the same mistakes I did! I looked around my first week and realized most of my friends had scholarships and I just thought it was so rare beforehand (basically, when I toured my school I was told I wouldn't get one). I really should have taken the LSAT a second time and financially set myself up the right way!

Great video! Definitely agree about only borrowing what you need. I liked to have a little cushion just in case but with federal loans, you have 120 days to return the money interest free. Budgeting is huge, I kept my loan check in a separate account and transferred money monthly so I'd be less tempted to go crazy.

Excellent video! One other possible funding avenue for those going to law school part time is employer paid tuition assistance. Some employers pay a fixed amount for any advanced degree and others pay on a sliding scale based on the correlation of your studies to your current job. One caveat here is most employer tuition programs require you to finish the semester successfully then submit for reimbursement. Since you had to pay the full tuition months ago you might end up paying with student loans but paying off part of the loan with the employer tuition assistance portion as fast as you can get your transcript and repay forms back to you employer. The more ways you can lower the net cost- the better. Love your channel and your style! 🤗

Have you heard of anyone getting their education covered fully by grants after undergrad? From what I've researched grants in grad school are minimal compared to undergrad? Thanks!
@TheAwkwardAttorney3 жыл бұрын
I had a partial scholarship that helped but still had undergrad and grad school loans - took out whatever they offered anytime they offered (terrible idea, especially since I was able to live with family and have VERY minimal living expenses - essentially just travel and misc.) and I was always drawn to public interest work so I came out with 6 figure debt and no interest to maintain a 6 figure career - we working on it though lol

Hey Guys , along with scoring high on LSAT/GPA, the National Guard will pay 100% of your tuition.
@mariaromo27432 жыл бұрын
Please could you tell what is the process to be part of that? Thank you!
@christinalouise46242 жыл бұрын
@@mariaromo2743 Hey! So you would search for the closest national guard office in your local area and bring your school transcripts and identification. There they will start you with a packet and it will only require you to do one weekend drill a month, which pays you. You will be entitled to Montgomery GI bill, kicker, Tuition assistance, and other federal funds. This will also pay for you room and board because not all tuition includes that in, along with books/supplies/transportation/ and fees.
@christinalouise46242 жыл бұрын
@Maria Romo also, they have a loan repayment program up to 50,000$ this would be a great addition to the current student loan repayment act that president just released.

This was really helpful! I was wondering what the pros are on paying off some loans while in school? For example, if I got a job during the summer, would it be better to save that money completely for school expenses so I don't have to take out more loans, or should I use 1/2 of it to pay off some loans and then the other 1/2 to live off of? Are there any benefits to paying off loans (if I can) during school considering graduate loans are unsubsidized?

I was wondering if you could give some tips on budgeting when your in law school, and where you can live as a student possibly, while not working first year, and how do you get an apartment as a student. I am currently a student and will be completing my Bachelor's degree in two years. I want to be a lawyer, and look to stay in state and save up these two years. I've been lucky to pay for my school 100% with just my job. I only recently received aid through a pell grant and scholarships thanks to good grades. I am a mama, 😌 so budgeting is everything.
