Just saved my floating shelf project. Uneven walls wasn't even something I thought would have been an issue until it was. Thank you!

Thanks for this! Just made some 8ft floating shelves and I've got about a 6mm gap at one spot due to my uneven1920s plaster wall.

Great explanations, especially regarding washer size and which pencil to use. Thank you! Will follow you here and on IG. Also, I believe my house was constructed by drunk Americans in 1981.

Such a great trick! I am probably not gonna apply it to my current 2.5m long shelves since I just have a tiny hand saw, but I am definitelly gonna use it in the future!

Great useful video, well explained and liked you gave alternative options with the tools. As for other how to videos, I’d love to see how to scribe a shelf to fit in an alcove with uneven walls please.
@christylucia7943 Жыл бұрын
I just did this project, and the way I figured out was to scribe onto a piece of cardboard and use it as a template.

What a great tip! I would prefer not to buy another tool just to put floating shelves in my bathroom. However, I know at least one wall is not aligned with the other.

This is helpful. Any tips for a pre-made shelf? I bought some Ikea shelving cubes and our wall is wonky AF ... I am debating mounting on plywood and carving the plywood as needed.

Hey there, how have you mount those beautiful shelves? I mean, what type of brackets have you used?

@@DmitriIvanov thanks! That’s interesting. May I asked why have you decided against brackets?
@DmitriIvanov2 жыл бұрын
@@olyzoly i didn't want to be able to see the mounting hardware at all. I like the look of floating shelves. Also they are solid oak, probably 25kg each with nothing on them.

What about the sides? I had to force my shelf in, and there were gaps on some spots and very snug on others.
@adrianparra77392 жыл бұрын
this video is very useful. But what if I have a gap of 3/4 to my left but as you move your way down to the right it's fine. What could I use to being that the washer would be too small. Thank you.
@DmitriIvanov2 жыл бұрын
Either get a bigger washer or rough cut the board in by eye and then run the washer along it.
@jgoller13 жыл бұрын
Dmitri great technique and pretty funny too. What method do you use for templating the sides of the shelf if it’s going into an alcove? Thanks!
@DmitriIvanov3 жыл бұрын
That's a bit more difficult. I ended up measuring the front and back of the alcove and getting the angle to the long wall with an angle copy tool and transferring it onto the shelves. Turned out pretty good but not 1mm good. Alcoves are no fun...
@Saladzingers2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this Dmitri; I have one question - what steps would you need to take if you need the shelf to be a certain depth/come out to a certain point? I.e. you’ve installed some framing and you need your front edge to come out to meet a straight support beam 10 inches away from the wall. In your example, the final depth of the shelf just depends on how much you end up taking off.
@DmitriIvanov2 жыл бұрын
Man, to be honest I've not run into something like that before. I thought about it a bit and I've got no good solution that pops into my head. Let me know if you manage it!
@candice8515 Жыл бұрын
Add some then..build it out- shims! Shimmy in where you need to fill to push out to meet.
@BeHappyTo Жыл бұрын
Nice technique. But surely it only works on only little uneven walls. If you get a wall that is very uneven, and vertically too, you would have to do this from both sides at once. (up and down)
@BeHappyTo Жыл бұрын
Well.. Ive thought about this and you only need to mark it from the top, and then cut the wood at an angle, such that only top touches the wall. Buuuut this wont be pretty from the bottom
@DmitriIvanov Жыл бұрын
Your shelf is only maybe 3cm thick, if you wall has a difference of more than 0.5-1mm over 3cm perhaps the wall needs some help X)
