I bought a new Christensen Arms 308 for hunting and a Vortex scope. I have to break in the barrel per their guidelines and figured since I have to shoot 50 rounds to do it I might as well zero my scope. Thanks for the information.

I like the knobs that are on the windage and elevation adjustment. I wont buy an optic anymore if there is a tool that you have to use to adjust. I lose those pieces and will screw up my dial before i go on the internet and spend $30 for another one

Thanks for the video! Super helpful for me. As a novice shooter, I have had a hard time finding anyone to show me how to zero a rifle. Do you have suggestions for what to do if you don’t have some of the more expensive tools to get all your data. I literally only have my rifle, a good scope, and a box of quality ammunition. Do I need to buy chronograph, or a lazer range finder? My first time zeroing my rifle I couldn’t even hit paper and have no idea what I was doing wrong. Thanks!

Certainly. I would find a range that had targets at certain ranges. 25 yds, 50 yds, 100yds and so forth. I would use cheaper target ammo and get sighted in at 25yds first. Take 3 shots and they should hopefully all land on paper and you can sight your optic at 25yds. Then you can either move up to 50 or 100yds to what your preference is that you want your rifle sighted at. Once you have it pretty close you can confirm with your quality hunting ammunition by shooting 1-3 shots with them and confirming that everything is correct. If you are having trouble hitting paper always get closer and work your way further out.

Rookie question: typically see AR platforms hen it comes to zeroing rifles. Would zeroing apply to ANY rifle employing a scope, including milsurp?

That's correct, while in this case we were using a precision rifle, these fundamentals can even be taken to red dot optics.

Great question. You have to zero any optic that you put on any weapon system. Whether it’s a red dot, iron sight, thermal, imager, in this case, a hunting scope onto a precision rifle.

Laser sights will get you close, but so will boresighting, and that's free.

In mils mrad how many clicks = 1inch

Considering if you are zeroing at yards/meters determines one mil. At 100 yards one mil is 3.6 inches. At 100 meters its 3.9 inches. To get this yards/meters is per click is 0.36/0.39. So you would times those numbers but the clicks to get the inch it will not be exactly an inch.

I like 50/220 yrd zero great for 5.56 You zero it for 50 then your second zero should also be 220yrd automatically or 200m great for all around!! If you only have a 25yrd range only then POI should be about 1” low of your POA! That will zero you for 50yrd.

Ive set my own Scopes since Late 80's & NEVER used ANY kind of EXACT ADJUSTMENT WRENCH & Have Always shot a Sub 1" groups with a CHEAP Scope or A $450 dollar LEOPOLD scope!!!!!
