@@totljag1 it's honestly impossible to drain from plug without removing a lot of stuff. Trust me, I tried and cut up all my hand and arm up trying to. So I just took it to the dealer and they did it for like $160

Im doing a coolant change on my 2016 Civic 2.0L & i have looked everywhere for a diagram for the coolant engine drain bolt on the engine block, but cant seem to find any information online. Do you know exactly where its located on the front of the block? I think I found it, its beside the secondary 02 sesnor on the front of the block, but before I open it up, I wanted to confirm with someone who has drained it from there

I'm having the same problem, I have a 2018 Civic and the blocked drain plug is located in the front to the left of the engine thermostat just right behind the O2 sensor. However, it looks to be mounted pretty high, I think there might be a second block drain somewhere the lowest point.
@shazaidi
@shazaidi Жыл бұрын
Just an update, I just got finished doing a full flush on my 2018 Civic and that block drain is probably the best solution. After completely draining and using the block drain it took nearly two gallons to fill the system. The manual specifies 1.4 gallons so I would say that gets nearly all the coolant out.

The no spill funnel he is using will bleed most of the cooling system as that’s the highest point of the system.

When you do the coolant flush with just distilled or deionized water, doesn’t some of the water still get stuck in the engine block? How do you fully ensure you get out all the water from the engine block? I know you have to run your car with the heater on high and get it hot with the temperature gauge in the middle but when should you drain the water from the petcock? Immediately or wait till it cools down? Because… If water is still stuck in the engine block and you put in a 50/50 mix of water and coolant, then that means you’re 50/50 coolant water mix has less coolant in the system since you won’t be able to fill it with the amount the Honda Civic manual says because of the water that’s still stuck in the engine block.

@RadiationTech Жыл бұрын
You may have some water left in the block but u get the majority of the old fluid out. It’s important to do this every couple years and don’t let ur coolant become 10 years old before u change it. If u have some fluid stuck in the block and u add new 50/50 mix it does not mean u have less coolant now the the old fluid was 50/50 as well. Even if u get a little more or less it wont really effect much. In most warm places they use just water no coolant at all. Its important to know how coolant works 1 it lowers the freezing point of water 2 it raises the boiling point of water

@@RadiationTech Thanks for the quick response. Is it best to just drain the plain water as soon as you stop your car since the thermostat is open or wait? What I was referring to is the plain water that is stuck in the engine block because of flushing the system with only plain distilled or deionized water which is taking up space. That’s why I was saying if you try to fill your radiator with the 5.07 litres which is what the Honda Civic manual says is the capacity the radiator of say 50/50 mix of coolant/water it won’t fit the entire 5.07 litres because of the plain water still stuck in the block. So therefore if say 500 millilitres is stuck in the block then whatever you are pouring in will be diluted even more with water that is stuck in the block. That is my concern.

Edwar. And you can have a cold heater core like some of the people mention on this board. Too much water left in the engine block.
@edward.kemash
@edward.kemash Жыл бұрын
@@supra8544 I was looking into further and besides draining it from the radiator I can also unscrew the block heater connector thing and it will drain antifreeze / coolant from the block.

Hi, after watching the video i changed the coolant in my car its 2018. Now the heat is working only at the maximum temp. At high but as soon as i reduce the temp. Like from 28 to 24 the heat stops working. Can you tell me whats the reason gonna be?
@RadiationTech
@RadiationTech Жыл бұрын
Check the coolant level make sure u filled enough coolant after the flush Make sure u bleed the system properly Make sure engine warms up and the radiator fan turns on Its also possible that its 24 degrees outside and u r just not feeling the heat cuz its hot outside

I am having the same issue. Fluid level is at the top. Any solution to this problem?
@supra8544
@supra8544 Жыл бұрын
Two possible causes: 1. You have too much distilled water in your system. You don’t have a 50/50 mix. 2. Your heater core is partially block. This method tends to leave more water in the system then the simple drain and refills with the 50/50 antifreeze without using the pure distilled water.
